Benefits Assistant

The Benefits Assistant supports the administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, leave programs, and wellness initiatives. This role assists employees with benefits-related questions, processes enrollments and changes, maintains accurate records, and ensures compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist with the administration of employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and retirement plans.
- Process benefit enrollments, changes, terminations, and qualifying life events in HRIS and carrier systems.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding eligibility, coverage, claims, and benefit options.
- Coordinate new hire benefit orientations and open enrollment activities.
- Maintain accurate employee benefits records and confidential files.
- Review and reconcile benefit invoices and assist with discrepancy resolution.
- Support leave administration, including FMLA, disability, workers' compensation, and paid leave tracking.
- Coordinate with insurance carriers, brokers, and third-party administrators to resolve issues.
- Assist with benefits communications, educational materials, and employee notices.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, ERISA, and FMLA.
- Generate reports and assist with audits related to benefits administration.
- Support HR projects and provide general administrative assistance as needed.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in HR, benefits administration, or an administrative support role.
- Knowledge of employee benefits and HR practices preferred.
- Experience with HRIS systems (e.g., ADP, Paycom, UKG, Workday, or similar) preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Knowledge of benefits laws and regulations.
- Experience processing leave of absence requests.
- Strong data entry and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
