Chief Financial Officer

Position OverviewBased at our corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) as part of the executive leadership team of the entire group of companies will report directly to the CEO and partner closely with the COO during an exciting phase of regional and national expansion. This leader will safeguard the financial health, enterprise value, and risk profile of a large mechanical and industrial contracting and fabrication enterprise. Supporting a growing union and professional workforce of 1,500+ employees, including professional engineers, project managers, field trades and shop fabricators, this role requires a dynamic executive who can maintain the entrepreneurial speed of a privately held business while deploying the institutional financial controls necessary to scale multi-state operations.The ideal candidate will have deep roots in construction and fabrication for heavy specialty operations, hands-on experience managing complex operating structures, and a proven track record of securing growth capital required to fuel multi-market growth.Core ResponsibilitiesGrowth, Strategy & Corporate FinanceGeographic Expansion Planning: Partner with the CEO and COO to evaluate the financial feasibility, tax implications, and capitalization strategies for expanding operations across new North American territories.Banking & Treasury Management: Manage corporate treasury functions, including cash forecasting, working capital optimization, banking relationships, covenant compliance, liquidity planning, and securing and scaling credit facilities to support larger, more complex industrial project opportunities.Capital Management: Balance long-term business reinvestment and capital expenditures for fabrication, shop, and engineering technologies while evaluating opportunistic acquisitions.M&A / Integration: Lead financial due diligence, valuation, integration, and post-acquisition performance management for strategic acquisitions.Board and Ownership Reporting: Provide clear and timely financial reporting and strategic analysis to the Board and ownership.Project Controls & Fabrication Cost AccountingMulti-Entity WIP Management: Direct sophisticated monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting for both local and remote project locations, ensuring accurate Percentage-of-Completion (POC) revenue recognition, cash-flow forecasting, and proactive risk management.Fabrication Cost Controls: Refine and monitor standard cost-accounting models for the fabrication facility, tracking raw materials, including structural steel, piping, and advanced alloys; labor variances; and equipment overhead absorption to drive manufacturing profitability.Tax Strategy: Navigate complex multi-state and cross-border tax environments, maximizing specialized credits, including Section 179D energy-efficiency deductions, R&D tax credits, and pass-through entity tax planning.Team Leadership & Systems ScaleDepartment Leadership: Mentor, scale, and modernize a high-performing finance, corporate accounting, and information technology team based in the Pittsburgh headquarters.ERP Systems Integration: Optimize the company's Trimble Viewpoint Vista ERP platform to ensure seamless, real-time data flow between regional field operations, remote project sites, the fabrication facility, and corporate headquarters.Position RequirementsExperience & EducationExecutive Tenure: At least five years of experience as a CFO or VP of Finance in a $100M+ private construction and engineering environment.Industry Expertise: Experience in construction, specialty contracting, or industrial fabrication is required. Mechanical or heavy-industrial contracting experience is strongly preferred.Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting. CPA and MBA is highly preferred to navigate complex private corporate tax and operating structures.Technical & Strategic CompetenciesExpertise in Percentage-of-Completion (POC) construction accounting and manufacturing cost allocation.Demonstrated capability to negotiate and scale large surety and bonding lines and multi-jurisdictional credit facilities.Strong knowledge of multi-state employment, sales tax, and regulatory compliance.High emotional intelligence with a leadership style well-suited for a growing, entrepreneurial, private-ownership culture.Working at McCarl'sThere is a reason why McCarl's is consistently ranked among the leading industrial contractors in the country: the caliber of our people.
