Major Gifts Officer

The primary purpose of this position is to build meaningful, strategic relationships to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual major donors, charitable trusts, and family foundations.

The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) strategically manages all fundraising activities for an assigned portfolio of donors and prospects. As a key member of the American Indian College Fund's Resource Development team, this role is critical in helping the organization meet annual revenue goals that support strategic initiatives and long-term sustainability.

This position must embody and actively reflect the College Fund's core values of respect, reciprocity, reasoning, reasoning, relationships, and responsibility. The Major Gifts Officer works collaboratively within Resource Development and across departments to coordinate efforts and achieve team and organizational objectives. Sound reasoning, accountability, and strategic decision-making are essential to success in this role.

Essential Job Functions

1. Builds strategic relationships with donors in an assigned fundraising portfolio of up to 150 donors to meet individual and organizational goals.
   1. Builds strong, personal, productive individual relationships with people interested in supporting the College Fund's mission
   2. Builds strong, productive networks with and among people who are or might be interested in the College Fund's mission
   3. Develops strategic and ongoing action plans for every donor in portfolio
   4. Tracks the status of donors and modifies stewardship/cultivation plan as needed
   5. Enters all donor information/actions into donor database
   6. Consistently monitors status of fundraising goals and performance metrics
   7. Consistently meets or exceeds individual fundraising goals
   8. Makes data-driven decisions in management of portfolio with a focus on meeting individual fundraising goals, organization business and strategic objectives, and return on investment

1. Develops donation-focused relationships with current and prospective donors

1. Communicates with prospective and current major donors frequently and consistently throughout fiscal year
2. Engages in creative and frequent interactions with donors in portfolio
3. Appropriately follows up with every donor based on results of active correspondence
4. Provides information through diverse and strategic touch points
5. Finalizes all reporting documents and manages the presentation of gift reports to donors
6. Strengthens/develops relationships with regional stakeholders

1. Implements innovative solutions and ideas to optimize fundraising potential
   1. Consistently creates new avenues for donor relationship and solicitation
   2. Shares innovative ideas with Resource Development (RD) team members
   3. Fully engages with available resources to qualify, identify, and cultivate prospective major donors as well as continually evaluate the potential of current major donors

1. Consistently maintains recordkeeping in organization databases
   1. Records all activities related to new, current and prospective donors in donor database
   2. Monitor donor pledges, gift agreements, and reporting deadlines to ensure compliance and stewardship integrity
   3. Collaborate with internal teams to support scholarship funding alignment and donor intent documentation as applicable, including communicating scholarship parameters through scholarship management database
   4. Support grant management processes in partnership with the grantwriting team, including coordination of proposals and reports through donor database.

Job Requirements

• Experience with managing a fundraising portfolio, organizing and meeting deadlines with responsibility for financial goals
• Demonstrated success in timely closing major gifts ranging from $10,000-$1,000,000+ from individuals, corporations, and foundations
• Familiarity and demonstrated success in using analytics to drive major donor relationships
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Knowledge of donor relational database software
• Knowledge of and/or interest in learning about American Indian education
• Familiarity with national philanthropic sector and understanding of concepts and trends within philanthropy
• Ability to work respectfully across differences in identity, background, and lived experience, both internally and externally
• Thrives in a fast-paced work environment

Education/ Experience

• Bachelor's degree required
• 4+ years of major gift fundraising experience or 7+ years of related experience in the areas of fundraising, sales, or relationship management
