# Job Opportunity – Emergency Department Holding Unit RN – North Carolina Start Date: September 21, 2026
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina

Schedule: Night shift, 36 or 48 hours per week; every other weekend required Highlights: - ED Holding Support position located in Float Pool serving patients awaiting inpatient bed placement- Target ratios: 1:6 for Medical/Surgical/Telemetry patients or 1:4 for Progressive Care Unit level patients- Contract length: 13+ weeks with hard stop date of February 27, 2027 to support facility through holiday season- Epic charting system with 12-hour orientation provided- Fast-paced environment with diverse adult medical/surgical diagnoses including PCU-level acuity- Navy scrubs provided; interdisciplinary support including respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams Requirements: - Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required- Previous travel nursing experience required- North Carolina or Compact state RN license- BLS and ACLS certifications required- Strong telemetry skills including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias- Experience with medical/surgical and telemetry patient populations- Proficiency in blood product administration, peripheral and PICC line management, insulin and heparin protocols- Competency with respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and oxygen administration- Ability to interpret arterial blood gases and manage isolation precautions- Skills in colostomy care, feeding tube management, chest tubes, and tracheostomy care- Flexibility to float to Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical areas as needed- Must pass EKG testing prior to start date- Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only) Preferred Qualifications: - NIHSS certification- Experience with CVA, neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury- Ortho trauma and total joint replacement experience- Central line blood draw and port access experience- Advanced wound care and wound vac management Why It's a Great Opportunity: This specialized ED Holding position offers dynamic nursing experience bridging emergency and inpatient care.
