Assistant Controller/ Senior Accountant

Role Description

We are seeking a Senior Accountant / Assistant Controller to take primary responsibility for the company's day-to-day accounting operations and monthly financial close.

This is a hands-on position for an experienced accounting professional who can work independently, manage the general ledger, prepare financial statements, oversee AP/AR activities, and support real estate development and property operations.

The position will work closely with the Controller, ownership, property development personnel, lenders, auditors, and outside professionals.

Key Responsibilities

• · Manage the full-cycle general ledger and monthly closing process.
• · Prepare and post journal entries for income, expenses, loan draws, intercompany transactions, payroll, and other activities.
• · Prepare and review monthly income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
• · Prepare monthly construction loan draws in collaboration with the Controller and development team.
• · Track development costs against budgets and prepare budget-to-actual and variance analyses.
• · Establish and maintain charts of accounts for properties and development projects.
• · Manage and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances.
• · Coordinate and oversee the existing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
• · Review AP invoice coding, payment processing, deposits, and related documentation.
• · Review and post payroll journal entries and oversee payroll and benefits ( with HR )
• · Prepare management reporting.
• · Prepare schedules and workpapers for audits, tax returns, lenders, and other third parties.
• · Prepare and submit applicable sales tax filings.
• · Assist with preparation and reporting of Forms 1099.
• · Research and resolve accounting issues and discrepancies.
• · Assist the Controller with financial reporting, budgeting, lender requirements, internal controls, and other financial matters.
• · Perform other accounting and administrative responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

• · Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• · Yardi experience a plus.
• · 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• · Strong general ledger and month-end closing experience.
• · Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements.
• · Experience with multiple entities and intercompany transactions.
• · Strong Excel skills.
• · Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
• · Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• · Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
