The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and compliance of the organization's financial records and takes ownership of the month-end close process. This role involves recording, reconciling, and analyzing financial transactions to maintain integrity in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. The Senior Staff Accountant works closely with the Controller, providing budget-to-actuals variance analysis to cross-functional business unit managers, supporting audit preparation, and serving as a resource to the AP/AR team, while the Controller reviews their work and remains the primary point of contact for external audit.

Job Functions and Responsibilities:

• Own the month-end close process, including preparing journal entries, performing balance sheet reconciliations, and analyzing variances.
• Perform bank reconciliations and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Support payroll by completing bi-weekly payroll entries, monthly accruals, and account reconciliations on an as-needed basis.
• Maintain and reconcile fixed asset schedules, including acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
• Handle intercompany transactions and reconcile related accounts.
• Prepare and file all required state sales tax returns.
• Assist the Controller with monthly budget-to-actuals variance analysis, responding to questions from business unit managers who review monthly financials.
• Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
• Serve as a resource to AP/AR clerks, assisting with questions and troubleshooting.
• Partner with operations and other functional teams to resolve discrepancies and support process improvements.
• Uphold internal controls, accounting policies, and GAAP compliance.
• Perform other tasks and projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• 4-6 years of accounting experience.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Strong background working with ERP, Ecommerce, and Retail systems.
