General Community Manager

Job Overview As a Community Manager, you will provide strong leadership and management direction on behalf of the Board of Directors and FirstService Residential. This position will oversee the entire operation and consistently adhere to and execute the mission and vision of the Board and community. You will serve as the single point of contact in the community, enhance communication, and provide effective oversight of staff and operations. The Community Manager is responsible for day‑to‑day operations, legal compliance, and overall oversight of the association and staff. Responsibilities Develop short‑term and long‑range plans and recommend goals and action plans to achieve Board objectives. Lead annual goal setting and review the organization structure, job descriptions, and functions. Partner with public, private and volunteer organizations to provide community services when necessary. Support the activities of the various Board sub‑committees and maintain seamless communication between the Board of Directors and committees. Provide leadership and guidance to ensure homeowner needs and desires are addressed. In partnership with the Board, create, or cause to be created, and implement the annual working budget, subject to Board approval. Monitor and report on the monthly financial position of the association. Provide agenda support and written/oral reports for Board meetings, summarize priorities, and follow up as needed. Recruit, hire, train and supervise all community staff in accordance with the documented management plan. Work closely with local emergency organizations to maintain approved emergency and evacuation plans. Coordinate with other departments, divisions and outside agencies to develop and implement community programs. Assess and monitor community needs, identify opportunities for improving service delivery, and implement new programs. Participate in professional group meetings and stay abreast of new trends and innovations in community management and programming. Maintain on‑site visibility throughout common areas and facilities. Ensure adherence to master calendar, maintenance calendar, association budgets and subsidy program. Review corporation policies to ensure compliance with civil code, declaration and other governing requirements. Perform building inspections and prepare action plans for opportunities. Ensure due diligence for protection of client funds, property and assets. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in business or related field from an accredited college or university and three years’ experience in Property Operations, Hospitality or Construction; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of seven years of successful community management experience or equivalent professional experience, with at least four years responsible for a diverse staff. Management experience in a small or medium‑sized organization and responsibility for multiple functional departments preferred. Understanding of physical building management, condominium law, and financial planning affecting property management. Valid driver’s license and state‑mandated vehicle insurance. Commitment to obtain CPM, PCAM, ARM or AMS designations or equivalent. Physical Requirements / Working Environment Must sit, stand, stoop, kneel, push, shove, lift, carry and move objects up to 25 lbs throughout the day, and climb several flights of stairs when necessary. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Must communicate effectively by phone and in person with clients and staff. Must have finger dexterity for typing/using a keyboard. Must be mobile enough to move around the office and property, including walking on uneven areas. Must work effectively and cheerfully in environments that may be stressful, including evenings, weekends and holidays as required. Must remain alert to safety, health, and environmental concerns.
