Position Type: Special Education/ Special Education Teacher Date Posted: 7/20/2026 Location: Edison Max SEI (High-Needs School) Job Title: Transition Coordinator/ School Counselor Location: Edison School Center Based Program Employment Type: Full Time Start Date: 8/24/26 Key Responsibilities Assessment & Evaluation Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to determine eligibility and appropriate services Use data to inform instructional strategies and interventions Attend and actively participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings Provide clear explanations of assessment results to families and staff Assist in developing measurable goals and appropriate accommodations Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education regulations Transition Coordination Serve as Transition Coordinator for students ages 14-26 Develop and implement transition plans in collaboration with special education teachers aligned with student goals for post-secondary education, employment, and independent living Collaborate with community agencies, vocational programs, and post-secondary institutions Support students and families in navigating transition resources and services Analyze and perform credit analysis for all High School Students Partner with teachers, administrators, and families to support student success Provide consultation on behavioral, academic, and social-emotional concerns Contribute to a positive, inclusive school climate MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree in special education from an accredited institution. A minimum of 3 years of satisfactory teaching experience in special or vocational education. Preferred experience in transition planning, youth employment, and vocational assessment of students with special needs. Requirements as defined in the Michigan Administrative Rules of Special Education and through Oakland Schools Plan for delivery of special education programs and services. Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. An ability to relate well to others and use good interpersonal skills. Knowledge of behavior management techniques, writing behavior intervention plans, functional behavior analysis, and implementing positive behavioral supports. Knowledge of and/or willingness to develop skills in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI techniques), Applied Behavior Analysis, and other similar programs will be helpful. Experience with students with behavioral challenges be helpful. Preferred Skills Experience working with diverse student populations Familiarity with IEP management systems Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines Knowledge of evidence-based interventions and practices Compensation: In accordance with the Center Program Salary Schedule - H.P.E.A. Contract Start Date: Beginning of the 2026-2027 School Year.
