FIRM OVERVIEW

We are a close-knit, client-focused family law practice of nine team members. We handle divorce, custody, child support, spousal support, property division, and related domestic relations matters. Because our office is small, every team member's contribution is visible and valued, and we rely on collaboration, flexibility, and mutual support to deliver excellent client service.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Case Manager/Paralegal is a key leadership role responsible for managing a full caseload of family law matters from intake through resolution, while also supervising and mentoring our Legal Assistants. This individual serves as the primary point of coordination between attorneys, clients, opposing counsel, and the court, ensuring cases move efficiently and accurately through every stage of litigation. The ideal candidate combines strong substantive family law knowledge, sharp organizational skills, and proven people-management ability, along with a collaborative, roll-up-your-sleeves attitude suited to a small office environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Case Management & Paralegal Duties

•      Manage a full and active caseload of family law matters (divorce, custody, support, property division, and related proceedings) under           attorney supervision.

•      Draft, review, and finalize legal documents including petitions, motions, financial affidavits, discovery requests/responses, settlement           agreements, and proposed orders.

•      Prepare cases for mediation, hearings, and trial, including exhibit organization, trial notebooks, and witness/document logs
•      Conduct legal and factual research to support case strategy.
•      Manage discovery: draft and respond to interrogatories, requests for production, and subpoenas; track deadlines and compliance.
•      Calendar and track all critical deadlines, court dates, and statutory timelines using the firm's case management system.
•      Communicate directly with clients to gather information, provide case status updates, and manage expectations with professionalism          and empathy.
•      Coordinate with opposing counsel, experts, mediators, and court personnel as needed.
•      E-file documents with the court and ensure compliance with local court rules and procedures.
•      Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date client files (physical and electronic).

Supervisory & Team Leadership

•      Directly supervise, train, 1-2 Legal Assistants, providing day-to-day guidance and delegating tasks appropriately.
•      Review work product of Legal Assistants for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with firm standards before submission to                    attorneys or paralegals.
•      Assist in onboarding new support staff and ongoing skills development.
•      Set workflow priorities and manage team workload distribution to meet deadlines.
•      Provide input to attorneys/management on performance evaluations and staffing needs.
•      Foster a positive, accountable, and collaborative team culture.

Office & Administrative Support

•      Serve as a liaison between attorneys and support staff to ensure smooth case workflow.
•      Identify and help implement process improvements to increase office efficiency.
•      Assist with billing coordination, including reviewing time entries and client invoices as needed.
•      Step in to support other areas of the office as needed, given the collaborative nature of a small firm.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

•      Minimum 5 years of experience working in a family law office, with substantial hands-on experience in case management and                        paralegal duties specific to domestic relations matters.

•      Prior experience training, mentoring, or supervising support staff strongly preferred.

•      Paralegal certificate or degree preferred (not required if equivalent practical experience is demonstrated).

•      Strong working knowledge of family law procedures, terminology, and local/state court rules.

•      Proficiency with legal case management software - MyCase, e-filing systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

•      Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate sensitively with clients experiencing high stress,             emotional circumstances.

•      Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases and competing deadlines simultaneously.
•      High degree of discretion and professionalism in handling confidential and sensitive information.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
