Job Description
The Sanitation Associate supports a food manufacturing facility by maintaining a high level of cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene to protect product safety and quality. You will perform industrial cleaning in production and common areas, operate sanitation equipment, and follow strict safety and food safety standards. This role requires the ability to train on a day shift, work on a set shift schedule, and adapt as the sanitation department grows and schedules evolve.
Responsibilities

• Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the food manufacturing facility to protect product safety and quality.
• Comply with all applicable safety and quality laws, regulations, and procedures, including lockout/tagout, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, allergen controls, and company-specific policies.
• Keep work areas and equipment clean, sanitary, and orderly at all times.
• Perform general industrial cleaning in production areas, ensuring equipment, surfaces, and surroundings meet food safety standards.
• Operate cleaning equipment to maintain floors throughout the building and production areas, ensuring there are no spills, raw material residues, or other hazards.
• Empty all waste containers, replace liners, and ensure waste is properly handled and removed from production areas.
• Clean and disinfect washrooms, locker rooms, and lunchrooms to maintain hygienic conditions for all employees.
• Wash and dust walls, equipment, tanks, ceiling light fixtures, and ceiling vents to remove dirt, spilled ingredients, grease, oil, and other foreign materials.
• Monitor for defective materials, spills, or sanitation issues that may take longer than normal to clean and promptly report them to the appropriate supervisor or lead.
• Occasionally fill pails for production or assist with other production utility operator activities as needed.
• Follow all safety, quality, and hygiene requirements, including proper use and care of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment.
• Stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and climb stairs as needed to access all areas requiring cleaning and inspection.
• Lift items in excess of 50 lbs on an occasional or repetitive basis as required by cleaning and sanitation tasks.
• Adapt to changing sanitation schedules as the department is rebuilt and optimized to support production without disruption.
• Perform other related duties as requested, assigned, or directed to support overall plant operations and cleanliness.

Work Environment
This role is based in a food manufacturing facility that produces chocolate products, with conditions similar to a large-scale chocolate factory. The environment includes both hot and cold areas: one side of the facility operates at elevated temperatures (around 105\u00B0F) for manufacturing processes, while the other side remains cooler (around 68\u00B0F) for chocolate cooling and packaging. You will work daily in a production setting with consistent noise and temperature variation. The facility requires strict adherence to safety, quality, and hygiene standards, including compliance with GMP, HACCP, allergen controls, and lockout/tagout procedures. You must wear a uniform, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, hair net, beard net, and any safety gear specific to your tasks whenever you are on the plant floor. The role involves prolonged standing and walking, frequent bending, stooping, and reaching, and climbing stairs to access different areas. You will handle cleaning equipment and chemicals and must ensure tools and equipment are in good working order, reporting any defects immediately. Pacemakers are not permitted around magnets in the facility. There are two primary shift patterns for this roleTuesday to Saturday 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM and Sunday to Thursday 2:00 PM to 10:30 PMwith all new hires required to train on the day shift (5:00 AM to 1:30 PM, Monday to Friday). The sanitation department is being rebuilt and scheduling is evolving, so shift times and patterns may change as the company refines a schedule that supports sanitation needs while minimizing disruption to production.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Union City, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
