Lead Material Handler

Primary Job Function: Individuals assigned to this position will be primarily responsible for safely, efficiently, and accurately moving material throughout the warehouse; and the safety and quality efforts of the Material Handlers assigned. The Lead Material Handler will assist the Operations Supervisor in leading the employees and the inventory in PVS Nolwood Buffalo's warehouses. Primary Job Duties Include:

• Opening or closing the facility as needed
• Unloading pre-packaged pallets of various chemicals and other goods from our suppliers
• Loading ours and our customer's trucks by hand, fork trucks, or pallet jack
• Verifying that all incoming and outgoing loads match the paperwork
• Preparing / checking shipping documents
• Assisting with bulk chemical unloading from tanker into chemical bulk storage tanks
• Bulk chemical dispensing from tanker or chemical bulk storage tank into totes, drums, carboys, pails, and jugs
• Closing containers per DOT specifications
• Inspecting all incoming and outgoing products for damage / leakage
• Inspecting the chemical bulk storage tanks and piping for leaks and spills each operating day
• Filling in as needed in any area at the facility
• Blending chemicals to specific customer orders
• Washing totes and drums
• Maintaining area housekeeping (sweeping, garbage removal, bathroom maintenance, etc.)
• Ensuring access to aisles, fire extinguishers, exits, electrical panels, and emergency eyewash / showers are not blocked
• Performing and documenting daily fork truck inspections
• Inspecting area safety / eyewash showers weekly
• Responding to emergencies as specified in the facility's Emergency Action Plan
• Labeling and marking all containers as per the Hazard Communication Standard
• Participating in limited spill response
• Assisting with organizing and maintaining existing inventory
• Alerting management when supply is low
• Ensuring staff are following all PVS Nolwood Buffalo safety rules, policies, and procedures for the work being performed
• Inventory control and management as directed
• Initiating service reports
• Notifying inventory control and purchasing when product is missing in a delivery
• Training employees in appropriate material handling procedures and best practices
• Working knowledge of computers and ability to train others
• Performing cycle counts on short ships and product not found
• Assisting Dispatcher with logistics
• Ensuring regulatory compliance per PVS Nolwood Buffalo established procedures

Other duties may include any of the specific job procedures included in: S&H 18.1 PVS Nolwood Chemicals, Inc Buffalo Job Descriptions and Procedures Training Requirements: Job incumbents will be required to complete (before 90 days from date of hire): New hire orientation, Incident and Accident Reporting Procedures, Hazard Communication, Respiratory and Fit Testing, Fork truck Classroom and Operation, Emergency Action Plan, Personal Protective Equipment, Fire Protection Plan, Process Safety Management, Walking-Working Surfaces, Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan, DEC Chemical Bulk Storage Requirements DOT Drum Inspection and Closure Procedures, DOT HazMat Employee HM-126F, Security Training, Specific Job Procedures from S&H 18.1 that may be included as part of an employee's job duties. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements: All employees of PVS are expected to work safely, follow all procedures, and wear the proper PPE at all times on the job. PPE has been determined by the Safety Data Sheets, manufacturer recommendations, workplace hazard analysis and from personal exposure monitoring data. This PPE is provided by PVS and includes: Steel-toe work shoes, Safety glasses, Sleeved shirts, High visibility clothing. Additional PPE may be required based on the task or operation being performed. Refer to PVS' full PPE policy for specific requirements.
