Microbiology Technician

This position supports our R&D team to investigate, test, and maintain optical-based products, technologies and systems in the measurement of real-time detection of microbial matter in high purity waters. The technologies are focused on laser-based fluorescence and scattering to detect waterborne microbes.

This position will be a contract role for approximately 3 months.

Work within an engineering-oriented R&D team to develop technologies and products that can detect microbial matter. The candidate will have some training or experience in several of the following areas: preparation/identification/quantification of microbial matter using traditional plating methods, instrument-based products and other approaches to quantify bacteria, sterile preparations and handling, cleaning methods, and documenting and validating procedures. The candidate assists the R&D team with quality testing on products, services, and applications. The candidate helps maintain the microbiology laboratory and equipment and identifies improvement opportunities. Works well in a dynamic, cross-functional environment.

Responsibilities:

• Contributes as part of a cross-functional product development team to develop chemical and microbial solutions to support optical-based detection technologies and services of waterborne microbes and surrogate chemicals.
• Prepares solutions for testing, development, and research as outlined by SOPs.
• Perform experiments with bacterial solutions to analyze the performance of several instrument-based systems.
• Performs and documents quality tests on microbial preparations.
• Identify and implement improvements in the fulfillment of these solutions.
• Conducts basic method development related to microbial sample preparation and quantification under the direction of Staff Microbiologists

Qualifications:

• Associates degree or higher in life sciences with 0-3 years laboratory experience required, preferably in Microbiology or related field.
• Experience with good laboratory practices, and knowledge of working in sterile environment.
• Experience with balances, pipeting, and other tools to produce quantitative-prepared solutions.
• Ability to provide analysis and reporting on data collected in the lab.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Able to work independently as well as a member of a team.
• Proficient in the use of standard Microsoft Office tools.
• Must complete and pass a drug screen (not testing for marijuana) and criminal background check prior to starting work
