Qualified lateral officers may be eligible for a $5,000 hiring incentive , year-for-year vacation accrual credit , and placement within the City's nine-year Police Officer Step Plan , providing an opportunity to recognize your prior law enforcement experience as you continue your career with South Jordan.

Lateral Officer Eligibility

To be considered as a lateral applicant, you must:

• Hold an active Utah POST certification or an equivalent out-of-state law enforcement certification and successfully complete the Utah POST waiver process.
• Have at least 12 months of experience as a Law Enforcement Officer .
• Be in good standing with your current or most recent law enforcement agency.
• Have a high school diploma or GED.
• Possess a valid Utah Class D Driver License as required by the position.
• Meet the City's required medical and physical fitness standards.
• Reside within 40 miles of the South Jordan Public Safety Building, located at 10655 South Redwood Road, South Jordan, Utah.

What You'll Do

As a South Jordan Police Officer, you will:

• Patrol assigned areas by vehicle, bicycle, or foot to prevent and respond to criminal activity.
• Respond to emergency calls, conduct preliminary investigations, and make arrests when appropriate.
• Enforce traffic laws, issue citations, and assist with accident investigations.
• Prepare reports and maintain accurate records in the police records management system.
• Serve legal documents and testify in court.
• Work collaboratively with other law enforcement agencies and community partners.
• Maintain department-issued firearms, vehicles, and specialized equipment.
• Participate in community outreach and build positive relationships with residents.
• Perform other law enforcement duties consistent with departmental policies and applicable laws.
