Event Manager - Internal Operations

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Event Manager - Internal Operations leads strategy, planning and execution of Milliman's discipline-specific forums and shareholder events that tie back to consultant revenue. We are looking for a strategic event leader who excels in managing complex, highly visible programs and creating impactful attendee experiences. This role collaborates with stakeholders and vendors to develop, plan, budget, and execute up to 15 events per year.

As part of the Events team within Milliman’s internal MarCom department, this position requires high-level attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage many stakeholders simultaneously. This role must be able to anticipate project needs, prioritize work, meet deadlines with little supervision, and execute events from start to finish.

Because we operate with a flat team structure, the person in this role should be equally comfortable designing high-level event strategies and executing the day-of details. This person will partner closely with teammates to share the workload on site. This role has direct access to senior leadership and the opportunity to shape Milliman’s long-term growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Event Management

• Partner with leadership and event chairs to identify event goals. Translate business objectives into compelling event programming and attendee journeys. Ensure agenda reflects company priorities.
• Lead all aspects of event execution, including venue selection, contract negotiation, Cvent registration build, agenda creation, attendee management, catering, accommodations, staffing, and budget management
• Assess risks, drive clarity, and foster shared understanding by asking probing questions and challenging assumptions
• Work as a cross-functional project manager with other teams in MarCom, Milliman’s Global Corporate Services teams, business owners, and with external vendors in support of the event lifecycle
• Drive the timeline and execution for all event communications and materials. Acts as the primary liaison to the brand and creative team to partner on collateral. Independently manage critical deadlines for email campaigns and ensures all physical assets (badges, reg sheets, signage) are accurately produced and ready for show day.
• Close out all events as required including post event surveys, data analysis and distribution to stakeholders. Gather feedback and review post-event analysis and make recommendations.
• Adhere to all Firm policies regarding compliance regulations and protocols

Operational Support

• Propose and implement new ideas and creative solutions to improve and streamline event planning processes
• Manage, monitor and report on event budgets quarterly
• Prepare and modify contracts by identifying business terms from legal ones and negotiating as needed with venues

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, business, marketing, or related field.
• The ideal candidate must have minimum 8 - 10 years' corporate event planning experience, specifically leading large-scale, multi-day gatherings.
• The ideal candidate must have comprehensive knowledge in event strategy, logistics, communications, analytics, and experiential design. Experience with a variety of event formats (virtual / in-person, webinars, and client events).
• The ideal candidate must have experience with Wrike or similar project management tools including Microsoft Dynamics, Cvent, and virtual event platforms.
• The ideal candidate must have the willingness to travel up to 60% of the time.
• Must have previous experience working in a fast-paced and highly cross-functional global organization. Must have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Must have exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, professionalism, and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders across organizational levels including executives.
• Must be extremely organized, strong attention to detail, and the highest standards or service-delivery and audience/participant engagement.
• Must have excellent judgement, and creative problem-solving skills, including contract negotiation, dispute resolution, and contingency planning.

COMPENSATION:

The overall range for this role is $78,800 - $145,130. For candidates residing in:

• Alaska, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York City, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, or the District of Columbia the range is $90,620 - $145,130.

• All other locations the range is $78,800 - $126,200.

A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.
