Deputy Constable - Constable, Pct #6

Job Summary The Deputy Constable performs specialized law enforcement duties and clerical work serving civil papers in Denton County. This includes serving criminal and civil process, maintaining records, and performing bailiff duties in the Justice of the Peace Court. Responsibilities Serve legal papers such as warrants, summons, writs, restraining orders, child custody orders, and other court orders. Act as court bailiff for the Justice of the Peace Court by maintaining order, opening and recessing the court, and accompanying inmates. Conduct seizures, evictions, and impounds as necessary. Patrol assigned areas of the county, directing traffic, issuing citations, answering complaint calls, and apprehending criminal suspects. Prepare criminal cases, files, and records; distribute to appropriate employees. Respond to routine non‑emergency calls and emergency calls; assist citizens as necessary. Use directories and other means to locate designated parties; print or copy relevant information. Explain the meaning of papers and make arrests when necessary; respond to inquiries from the public on law‑enforcement issues. Receive and date‑stamp warrants, enter data into computer files, and file warrants into folders. Maintain logs of warrants and other papers served, papers not served, and other activities; maintain department files and records. Escort inmates between jail and court, applying handcuffs or restraints, and notify jail officials of changes in inmate status. Prepare and make bank deposits of fees received for service of papers from other jurisdictions. Maintain regular and punctual attendance requirements. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED. Certification as a Peace Officer in the State of Texas (required). Possession of a valid driver’s license; must obtain a Texas driver’s license within 90 days. Pass a State Criminal History background check. Perform other related duties as required by the Constable.
