Pay: $65,000 to $85,000 Salary/Year

About the Role

We're hiring a Shipping Supervisor to lead outbound freight and transportation operations for a manufacturing company. This role develops and implements transportation demand and capacity plans, builds network models for freight flow and delivery requirements, and identifies the optimal carrier base while determining routing and scheduling. The right candidate uses analytical and quantitative methods to understand, predict, and improve logistics processes, and is accountable for the quality and output of the shipping department.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate all modes of transportation and develop clear, cost effective transportation solutions.
• Develop routing rules and review routings daily to drive cost improvements, working closely with shipping team leaders.
• Use a TMS optimizer, merge in transit process, and pool point distribution methodology to determine the most direct and cost effective transport mode.
• Develop and report cost saving measures, using metrics to drive routing changes.
• Lead and implement optimization processes across all facilities.
• Investigate problems, identify root causes, and develop solutions.
• Develop performance and freight charge reports for logistics service providers.
• Delegate work to shipping personnel and coordinate daily activities.
• Obtain transportation quotes for products.
• Oversee preparation of shipping department paperwork.
• Oversee safe loading of all carriers.
• Schedule LTL carriers and full truckloads.
• Prepare freight damage claims for resolution.
• Maintain on time and past due reason reports.
• Maintain a safe work environment, recognizing unsafe conditions and taking action to prevent injuries and property loss.

Additional Responsibilities

• Train employees and outsource manufacturing partners on transportation optimization processes.
• Lead improvements to shipping methods and processes, recommending changes in materials, equipment, and procedures to enhance quality and reduce product costs.
• Hire, train, and develop team leaders, including performance evaluations and counseling.
• Monitor shipping processes and product quality, directing adjustments as needed.
• Operate forklifts and other materials handling equipment.
• Communicate effectively with cross functional team members and resolve problems in a timely manner.
• Build trust and effective teamwork through open, honest communication.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• AA/AS or equivalent, plus a minimum of 5 years of experience in logistics or transportation management, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory or proven leadership experience.
• Self starter with the ability to work in a team environment and foster cross functional collaboration.
• Strong computer skills, including MS Office, ERP, and custom logistics shipping software.
• Thorough understanding of transportation tariff pricing structures by mode.
• Knowledge of transportation management system software such as MercuryGate, MercuryEdge, or MOJO.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral.
