The City of Cortland is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented financial professional to serve as our next Assistant Finance Director. This pivotal role works directly under the leadership of the Finance Director to oversee the daily financial operations of the city. You will help maintain the city's fiscal integrity by managing municipal accounting, payroll processes, and assisting with processing water/sewer billing. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with a strong background in public sector accounting who is passionate about serving the Cortland community.

Key Responsibilities

• Daily Operations: Assists with accounts payable, accounts receivable, utility billing, and payroll processing.
• Internal Controls: Assists with monitoring and updating financial systems and controls to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Audit Preparation: Assists with audit preparation and helps facilitate the annual audit process.
• Leadership Coverage: Act in the capacity of the Finance Director during her absence.

Qualifications & Experience

• Experience & Technical Skills: Experience in accounting, payroll or finance, with a strong preference for municipal or governmental accounting. Microsoft Word, and advanced Excel skills. Familiar with Uniform Accounting Network (UAN) accounting and payroll software preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Familiarity with Ohio budgetary laws and State Auditor requirements.
• Excellent communication skills.
• High level of integrity, confidentiality, accuracy, and attention to detail.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
