Position Summary The University of New Mexico National Cancer Institute (NCI) Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC) and the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Preventive Medicine at the UNM School of Medicine seek established population scientists focused on cancer control, health services research, and behavioral intervention research to lead programmatic efforts in cancer control in New Mexico. We are looking for accomplished mid‑career to senior faculty with sustained records of outstanding scholarly achievement, including peer‑reviewed funding (preferably NCI and NIH) and impactful publications. Selected candidates will have the requisite organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills to foster interdisciplinary collaborations and may be offered UNMCCC endowed leadership roles such as Associate Director or Program Leader. The successful candidate will join a vibrant and highly collaborative research community within the UNMCCC Cancer Control and Population Sciences Research Program. The program’s members conduct research along the entire cancer continuum and have access to extensive shared resources, registries, and infrastructure such as the Behavioral Measurement and Population Science Shared Resource, the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement, the NCI SEER‑funded New Mexico Tumor Registry, the nation’s only prospective HPV/PAP Screening Registry, a developing Colorectal Cancer Screening Registry, Project ECHO, the New Mexico NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NM NCORP), the NIEHS/USEPA‑funded Center for Native Environmental Health Equity, the NIEHS/NIH/NCI‑funded METALS Superfund Research and Training Center, and the Navajo Birth Cohort/Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes Program. These facilities support research on the environmental determinants of cancer within the diverse populations served by the UNMCCC, which include primarily Hispanic/Latino, American Indian, and non‑Hispanic White communities. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: PhD or MD with a minimum of a master of science or master’s in public health degree in epidemiology, health services research, or a related field; Postdoctoral training or experience in health services/cancer care delivery and/or behavioral intervention research; A track record of scholarly achievement, including peer‑reviewed funding and high‑quality impactful publications; Must be eligible to work in the U.S. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in training and mentoring faculty and staff; Commitment to participation in disparities research; Expertise in building multidisciplinary research teams and developing multi‑investigator grants and programs.
