The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Boards Support Section is recruiting for a Fish and Game Regulatory Program Assistant (Regional Coordinator) located in Juneau, Alaska! What you will be doing: The position serves as the Regional Coordinator primarily for Southeast Alaska which is responsible for supporting 12 - 15 local fish and game advisory committees (ACs) and serving as a regional point of contact for the fish and game regulatory process involving the ACs and the Boards of Fisheries and Game (boards). The primary responsibilities include coordinating AC meetings by working closely with the chairpersons, members, and ADF&G staff to set meeting dates, locations, and agenda items; facilitating AC membership elections and public participation; providing travel arrangements, collecting receipts, and processing travel for AC members to attend meetings; disseminating meeting material and other program information; providing proper public notice of meetings; and ensuring ACs recommendations are submitted to the boards. The position will also assist with ACs from other regions as needed. Our organization, mission and culture: The mission of the ADF&G Boards Support Section is to facilitate an effective board and public process for the state's fish and wildlife regulatory system. A core service of the section is to ensure that citizens participating in the fish and game regulatory process have clear and helpful information in advance to help them engage effectively. As regional coordinator for the southern Southeast Alaska, the incumbent contributes to the section's mission and goals by communicating information about the regulatory process to the ACs and the public so they can participate fully in the process. The position also facilitates the work of the southern Southeast Region ACs who provide significant input to the boards. The position is one of six positions around the state who assist the 84 fish and game advisory committees and the public in the process for making changes to Alaska's hunting, fishing and trapping regulations. The program is widely recognized for its neutral facilitation in this important, public process. Team members communicate regularly to support one another and discuss best practices for the program. The work involved with this position is very rewarding as it plays an important role in engaging the public in the management decisions of Alaska's fisheries and wildlife resources. It also provides an opportunity to travel around the state, learning about local and agency perspectives on fish and wildlife resource issues, and building professional relationships with users of the resources and other agency staff. Regional coordinators and executive directors also spend time travelling together to staff and carry out two to four board meetings each annual cycle. To help the incumbent succeed in this position, support and training is provided by fellow regional coordinators, the boards' executive directors, and the administrative staff.

The working environment you can expect: This position is located at the ADF&G headquarters building in Juneau, Alaska. It is a full-time, seasonal position working up to eight months, approximately September through April. The work environment is primarily office work as well as attending AC and board meetings off-site; overtime accrual is necessary. Daily office work involves regular email and telephone communication; providing guidance and information about the AC system, the regulatory process, and board procedures; preparing and distributing meeting materials including agendas and notices; maintaining AC rosters and distribution information; and performing a variety of other administrative tasks including processing travel paperwork. The selected individual will be assigned to attend one to three multi day-long board meetings to provide staff support which includes set up and tear down of meeting equipment and assisting the public and advisory committee members with the board process. Periods of travel to AC meetings throughout the region are expected. Overtime accrual is necessary.

Who we are looking for: We are looking for an individual with the following competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities: The ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with members of the public and agency staff. The ability to read, understand, and explain regulations concerning the advisory committees; the regulatory process; and general hunting and fishing regulations. Experience in coordinating and arranging public or other types of meetings including making travel arrangements. Familiarity and experience with Zoom and Teams meeting platforms is strongly desired. Strong organization skills and the ability to work independently on multiple tasks with many deadlines and responsibilities. The ability to perform administrative and accounting functions, including arranging travel, processing travel reimbursement paperwork, and compiling basic budget estimates.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or the equivalent AND Three years of work experience which includes one year of experience in one or a combination of the following capacities: Working with or assisting a board, commission, advisory council, advisory committee, corporation, or governmental agency; OR Providing information and/or data to groups which have competing demands or interests on the same recreational or environmental resource; OR Explaining policies and procedures to and/or eliciting, exchanging, and evaluating detailed information from a diverse audience. Substitution: Post-secondary education or vocational education may substitute for two years of the non-specific work experience. (Three semester or four quarter hours of post-secondary education are equal to one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education are equal to one month of experience.) Special Note: Specific positions may require bilingual ability.
