Robert Half is recruiting for an interim Controller for our home builder and real estate development client in the Inland Empire. The Controller will oversee financial reporting, month end close, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, audit support, and accounting operations while partnering closely with executive leadership. This role will be onsite in Ontario, CA.

Must Have Qualifications:

Real estate, multifamily development, and/or property management experience required.

JD Edwards (JDE) ERP experience is required.

Proven ability to communicate effectively with C Suite executives and operational leaders.

High integrity, accountability, and dedication.

Ability to quickly step into the role with minimal training.

Key Responsibilities

Manage all general ledger activities, including inventories, fixed assets, and payroll.

Lead month end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.

Oversee accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, costing, and financial reporting.

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

Ensure compliance with GAAP and maintenance of accurate accounting records.

Prepare supporting schedules for income tax reporting.

Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.

Analyze financial results, trends, and budget variances and provide recommendations to leadership.

Oversee fixed asset accounting, depreciation, and capitalization policies.

Improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting procedures.

Coordinate external audits and serve as the primary liaison with auditors.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

CPA preferred.

Prior Controller or Assistant Controller experience within homebuilding, real estate development, multifamily, or property management organizations.

Experience managing accounting teams and supporting executive decision making.

• At least 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including leadership responsibility in a Controller or Assistant Controller capacity.
• Background in real estate, multifamily development, homebuilding, or property management is required.
• Hands-on experience with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is required.
• Demonstrated success in financial reporting, general ledger management, and month-end close activities.
• Ability to communicate confidently with executive leadership and cross-functional operational teams.
• Proven experience overseeing budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and audit support.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
• Reputation for integrity, accountability, and the ability to step into a role with minimal ramp-up time.
