Summary The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs is responsible forassessment of didactic and clinical education for the ArizonaCollege of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) Dean’s office. The dutiesand responsibilities of this position will fall into fourcategories: teaching, research, service and administration. Thisposition reports to the AZCOM Dean and requires a Ph.D. or D.O.from an accredited college in an appropriate field. The AssociateDean for Academic Affairs should remain current in his/her field ofeducation, and demonstrate proven experience in teaching andacademic leadership in medical education. This is a non-tenured,faculty position. Position requirements This position requires a Ph.D. or D.O. from an accredited collegein an appropriate field. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairsmust remain current in his/her field of education and demonstrateproven experience in teaching and academic leadership in medicaleducation. 1. Teaching Provide a faculty development plan to the Dean annually. Participate in teaching students in his/her area ofexpertise. Review COMLEX performance with AZCOM faculty on an annualbasis. Update COMLEX performance data on the AZCOM Fast Facts websiteannually. Facilitate remediation of students who fail any section ofCOMLEX. Provide student performance data to the Curriculum Committee toassist with course reviews. Assist the Associate Dean for Curricular Integration and FacultyDevelopment with assessment of pre-clinical academic studentperformance. Assist the Associate Dean for Clinical Education with assessmentof clinical and post-rotation examination studentperformance. Assist the Associate Dean for Clinical Education with tracking ofresidency placement results, residency program director surveys,alumni surveys, and other data collected relating to studentperformance. Oversee the Director of Assessment and support the Dean with themanagement of students on leaves of absence to ensure they stay ontrack for graduation and residency placement. Assist Associate Dean for Clinical Education with maintenance ofthe Residency Placement Match Tool and faculty development on itsuse for student advising. 2. Research & Scholarly Activity Participate and mentor clinical faculty in educational and/orother research. Participation is best documented throughpublication in peer-reviewed journals, but may also be demonstratedthrough provision of lectures at local or national clinical orscientific conferences, presentation at poster programs, NBOMEquestion writing, or submission of applications for grants. Supervise students in research projects supported by the AZCOMDean’s Office. Support faculty members in the Department of Clinical Educationin developing their research. 3. Service Participate on University and college committees as assigned,including, but not limited to Curriculum Committee, and Clinicaland Preclinical Promotions Committees. Participate in Admissions as an interviewer. Present Admissions talks on behalf of the Dean. Participate in the AZCOM portion of Orientation. Help to plan graduation activities for AZCOM students. Participate in faculty development programming as apresenter. Assist the Dean and other members of the team with MedicalStudent Performance Evaluations annually. Represent AZCOM faculty at educational meetings. 4. Administration Supervise and develop faculty and staff in the Department ofAssessment. Assist preceptor development through feedback from PreceptorReport Card. Advise faculty in the Department of Assessment regardingpromotion in rank advancement. Oversee and develop AZCOM’s Department of Assessment budgetannually. Do performance evaluations annually for all faculty and staffreporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Assist with annual update of the Midwestern University, ArizonaCollege of Osteopathic Medicine catalog and AZCOM website. Assist in the development of annual AACOM reports. Assist the Dean with accreditation compliance for AZCOM,including all required annual and mid-cycle reporting. Assist with annual MWU outcomes assessment programming. Manage AZCOM exit and alumni surveys. Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
