Instructional Faculty – Temporary/Lecturer Locations: Pomona, Southern California Appointment Type: Temporary / Lecturer, Part Time, On-site Overview The Department of Sociology at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for its Lecturer pool for part‑time teaching appointments. Positions are available as needed for each academic semester of the 2026-27 academic year. Position Overview The temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid‑December; the Spring term begins mid‑January and ends in mid‑May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available. Applicants may teach the following subject areas: Sociology—Introduction Courses, Theory Courses, Social Science Methods (Qualitative and Quantitative), and a variety of Elective Courses. Responsibilities Teach assigned division courses in the department’s curriculum and serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load. Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend courses. Required Qualifications MA in Sociology, Criminology, or related discipline relevant to the curriculum or a related discipline. MA if applying to teach Social Work courses. Preferred Qualifications A Ph.D. in Sociology, Criminology, or related discipline to teach sociology and criminology. MSW, LCSW, DSW, or Ph.D. in Social Work to teach social work courses. Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and evidence of strong teaching. Salary and Benefit Information Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background. Initial appointments are for one semester only. Monthly base salaries are prorated to the number of units worked and paid in six monthly payments for each full semester. Anticipated hiring range, not to exceed $6,221 per month (as of July 2024). A background check (including a criminal records check) must be satisfactorily completed. The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with CSU Executive Order 1083.
