This Medical Assistant role supports a busy orthopedic practice by delivering high-quality clinical and administrative care to patients. You will use ModMed as the electronic medical record (EMR) system, prepare patients for visits and procedures, manage medical documentation and insurance processes, and help ensure smooth patient flow across multiple office locations in New Jersey. Responsibilities

• Utilize ModMed EMR to accurately document and update patient medical histories, visit notes, and treatment records.
• Take vital signs and prepare patients for procedures, ensuring they are comfortable and informed throughout their visit.
• Provide patients with clear information on treatments, medications, and post-procedure care instructions.
• Work closely with healthcare providers to maintain efficient patient flow and support smooth office operations.
• Log medications, reconcile medication information with pharmacies, and update the computer system for MRI, CAT scan, and other diagnostic requests.
• Complete return-to-gym and return-to-sports notes, enter scripts into the EMR, and call facilities for urgent or STAT requests.
• Prepare patient charts ahead of scheduled appointments, identify missing forms or information, and print necessary documents to streamline the visit.
• Support the call center when needed, including handling calls for scheduling and rescheduling patient appointments.
• Use and support fax machines between offices to ensure files are properly received and added to patient records.
• Schedule follow-up appointments with patients face-to-face as they leave their current visit.
• Verify patient insurance coverage, explain benefits when needed, and collect copayments accurately.
• Maintain and update patient records with strict attention to confidentiality, completeness, and accuracy.
• Process insurance claims, create invoices, and manage patient billing-related tasks as part of the administrative workflow.
• Provide general administrative support to providers and office staff in a high-volume orthopedic environment.
• Interact with patients primarily face-to-face, offering a professional, courteous, and empathetic experience during each encounter.
• Adapt to rotating providers and varying patient volumes, typically managing 20-40 patients per day, with approximately one patient every 15 minutes.
• Remain on-site until the last patient has completed their visit, even when this extends beyond the scheduled shift end time.

Essential Skills

• Medical assistant experience in a high-volume office setting.
• Hands-on experience with EMR systems, specifically ModMed.
• Ability to take and record vital signs accurately.
• Experience in medical assisting within an orthopedic or similar clinical environment.
• Proficiency in insurance verification and understanding of patient coverage.
• Skill in appointment scheduling and rescheduling, both by phone and face-to-face.
• Administrative support experience in a clinical or medical office.
• Strong attention to detail in maintaining and updating confidential patient records.
• Capability to manage patient flow efficiently and support multiple providers.
• Comfort with frequent, direct patient interaction and fast-paced clinical operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Medical Assistant certification preferred but not required; candidates with expired or outdated certification are welcome.
• Experience processing insurance claims and creating patient invoices.
• Familiarity with orthopedic terminology and workflows.
• Ability to work across multiple office locations with a consistent, professional demeanor.
• Strong communication skills for explaining treatments, medications, and post-procedure care.
• Organizational skills to prepare charts in advance and identify missing documentation.
• Willingness to learn from providers who are eager to teach and support professional growth.
• Comfort working within a large, multi-site practice that maintains a small-group, collaborative feel.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position in a multi-site orthopedic practice with six offices located in New Jersey, including Randolph, Sparta, Hackettstown, Morristown, and Cedar Knolls. You will cover all sites, following a routine schedule while remaining flexible to support any location as needed. Typical shifts are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with one evening shift per week from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., scheduled in advance and on a routine basis. Schedules are released on Wednesdays. You will work approximately one weekend around once per quarter based on staffing needs. Consultants are expected to stay until the last patient leaves, even if this extends beyond the scheduled end time. The environment is high-volume, with 20-40 patients per day depending on the provider, and most of the role involves face-to-face patient interaction rather than phone or email. The practice uses ModMed as its EMR and relies on standard office and clinical equipment, including fax machines and diagnostic ordering systems. The culture is friendly and collaborative, with providers who are eager to teach and support staff development. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
