The Department of Communication and Media Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach COMM 330: Intercultural Communication.

COMM 330: Intercultural Communication is an introduction to traditional and critical theories concepts and principles regarding communication between and about people of different racial ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Takes a culture-general approach to examining the relationship among culture communication context (social historical political) and power. Emphasizes domestic issues with attention given to how they impact and are impacted by international communities.

The department has two (2) Bachelors degree programs: Communication and Media Studies. Review the courses on our website: qualifications:

• ABD in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field
• Experience and demonstrated effectiveness with in-person classroom instruction and Learning Management Systems such as Canvas Moodle or Blackboard
• Per the California State Universitys Out-of-State Employment Policy the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Preferred qualifications:

• A doctorate in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field
• Pertinent expertise to teach courses in our Communication/Media Studies programs
• Higher education teaching experience with minimum of 1 year as teacher of record pertinent to subject area
• Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and as applicable service.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

• Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5507 - $8000 per full-time month

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

• CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5507 - $6677 per full-time month
• CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $6221 - $13224 per full-time month

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range commensurate with education and experience.
