Supervisor, Operations - Material Handling

Position Summary The Operations Supervisor will support the Operations Manager in scheduling and logistics, team member development, customer engagement, safety program implementation and adherence, and process and procedure execution at Savage’s Detroit Handling operation located within the Marathon Refinery in Detroit, Michigan. The role involves providing highly skilled expertise in Petroleum Coke cutting, Coke handling, tractor‑trailer loadout, and specialized equipment maintenance, and collaborating with the Operations Manager and our customer to solve challenges and improve reliability and efficiency. Key Responsibilities Lead the safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) efforts and maintain a commitment to zero occurrences. Assist in developing and executing an operational business plan, including budgeting, forecasting, cost management, and variance reviews. Collect, analyze, verify, and distribute logistics and inventory data to key customer contacts and Savage stakeholders in a timely and efficient manner. Build and maintain strong relationships with the customer through daily interactions and scheduled meetings highlighting Key Performance Indicators and other metrics. Support leadership and teamwork across multiple proficiencies: Coke Cutters, Overhead Crane Operators, Loadout Operators, Mechanics, Electricians, and Utility Operators. Manage utilization of equipment and personnel to meet customer service expectations and financial stewardship. Supervise daily inventory levels and alert leadership to potential issues. Support the Savage S7 Delivery System. Aid the Operations Manager in hiring, training, leadership, and team building. Remain available to work weekends and holidays; operation runs 24/7. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed. Required Qualifications 2 years of supervisory experience in an industrial setting preferred. General understanding of contracts and MSAs. Knowledge of Petroleum Coke cutting, overhead cranes, conveyor belts, and loadout systems. Valid TWIC card. Work Monday through Friday, approximately 45 hours per week. Valid driver’s license. Occasional travel may be required. Desired Skills and Traits Independent worker in an industrial environment, balancing customer, company and team member needs.
