Executive Director

Volunteering Untapped Chicago is looking for a new Executive Director to help lead the charge of our organization! Please note this is an unpaid volunteer position with a 2-year term. The term officially starts January 1, 2027, with a mandatory onboarding period prior.

Our Executive Director is in charge of a variety of items: overseeing our monthly events, managing the Executive Board & Leadership Team, and creating & executing the vision for the organization. We are looking for an organized, effective communicator, who is willing to bring new ideas to the table and collaborate with the rest of the board to further evolve the organization. The Executive Director will take on the below tasks, which takes on average 2-3 hours per week, outside of board meetings.

• Set the annual strategy for the organization; Oversee goal development of organization for the year, ensuring all parties have clear alignment and appropriate planning
• Serve as the primary face of the organization, regularly network to seek out new partnerships and funding
• Manage the Director of Marketing, Director of Finance, Director of Non-Profit Partnerships, Director of Community Engagement, and Director of Operations
• Manage processes within leadership team (i.e. responsibilities, leadership meetings)
• Lead quarterly in-person leadership meetings and biweekly virtual board meetings, with input from board

Additional Board Member Responsibilities:

• Arrive at monthly Saturday events early and stay late to assist with set up and clean up of events
• Attend a minimum of 10 Saturday monthly events a year and 4 social events (i.e. fundraisers, happy hours, etc.)
• Coordinate yearly events, with the entire board (i.e. Volunteer Recruitment fairs, yearly VU Chicago anniversary, annual gala)
• Communicate via Slack with all VU Chicago board and committee members, as an open forum and method of organization

• Organized and excited by innovative thinking and co-creating organizational strategy
• Past demonstration of leadership and management roles, with success in holding people accountable to deadlines in a caring and supportive manner
• Demonstrated commitment to learning and leading with a continuous examination of justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Has a passion for volunteering and relentless belief that a community of volunteers can contribute to a more just and equitable Chicago
