Hours/Week: 36-40 hours/week

License/Certs: Registered Nurse (RN) license, BLS, ACLS, NIH

Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU or PCU experience in acute care; first-time travelers must meet experience criteria

What You'll Do:

• Provide direct patient care in a 24-bed Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PCU)
• Monitor patient vitals, manage titratable IV medications including Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, and Levophed (manager approval required for some)
• Support patients with conditions such as AFIB, RVR, DKA, HTN, COPD, CVA/TIA, and post-surgical recovery (e.g., ACDF, Laminectomy)
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members including charge nurses, resource nurses, RT, hospitalists, and therapy staff
• Manage patient charts using Meditech Expanse electronic medical records system
• Assist with procedures like chest tube management, trach care, and lumbar CSF drains (preferred skills)
• Participate in hospital orientation and unit-specific onboarding (two 12-hour shifts)
• Adhere to scheduled work hours, including every other weekend rotation and holiday coverage

What You Need:

• Valid RN licensure in Louisiana or eligible to practice in Louisiana
• Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience, preferably in ICU or PCU
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH certifications
• Ability to pass an EKG competency exam prior to start
• Strong clinical skills, including IV management and patient assessment
• Flexibility to work night shifts and scheduled weekends/holidays

This assignment is located at a reputable facility in Shreveport, LA. The PCU provides specialized care for patients post-surgical and medical admissions, including stroke, cardiac, and respiratory cases. The unit offers a team-oriented environment with in-house support staff and state-of-the-art equipment, including EMR, Alaris pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing. You will receive orientation to the hospital and unit-specific protocols, with the opportunity to work in a collaborative, fast-paced setting.
