Project Engineer

We are looking for a Project Engineer to join our Engineering Department which is responsible for managing the Capital Projects Portfolio and providing engineering and construction services for Boron Operations and Wilmington Operations. The Engineering Team manages over 60 annual Capital Projects and assists in supporting production with technical knowledge, troubleshooting skills, day‑to‑day guidance, and leading improvement projects. The Project Engineer will deliver multiple projects during all stages, focusing on prefeasibility and feasibility stages. This is a great opportunity to have close contact with stakeholders from operations, processing, environmental, safety, and maintenance teams to ensure compliance with the RTB Capital Plan and to collaborate with operations to troubleshoot and execute optimization changes. Responsibilities Ensure projects are managed with high safety attention and in accordance with Rio Tinto Health, Safety and Environmental standards. Actively participate in HSEQ systems such as Critical Risk Management Verifications, interactions, near‑hit reporting, incident reporting and analysis, inspections, risk assessments, management review, and element championing. Manage multiple projects in coordination with outside engineering groups, contractors or service providers. Facilitate development of project scopes, schedules, cost estimates and detailed engineering. Review contracting plans, engineering and contractor selection, and procurement strategies for each initiative to ensure successful completion. Work with project sponsors and outside contractors to develop detailed scopes of work, including costs, bid documents, job execution plans, and communicate project schedules, milestones, and progress to all relevant stakeholders. Coordinate CEA (Capital Expenditure Authorization) preparation and Project charters with Finance and project sponsors. Select and oversee engineering and field contractors to complete projects. Support business optimization and cost‑reduction initiatives and projects. Complete MOC, SHEAP, risk assessments, etc., in support of projects and other changes. Perform other technical duties to meet the needs of the business. What You’ll Bring A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team. BS university degree in Engineering/Construction Management required. Minimum 2 years of Project/Construction Engineering experience in mining, mineral processing engineering, or another heavy industrial industry. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software. Good critical thinking, data analysis, and problem‑solving skills. Effective communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation abilities. Proven ability to work independently and in a team‑based environment. Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities. Strong multi‑tasking and organizational skills.
