Departmental Overview University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) strengthens Berkeley’s excellence through engagement with alumni, parents, undergraduate and graduate students, and friends of the University, raising public awareness about Berkeley and increasing private philanthropy. UDAR provides overall direction for the campus philanthropic advancement strategies and works to strengthen unit development in partnership with campus fundraisers. The Division handles a range of central activities and services encompassing communications, stewardship, prospect development, data management, gift management, reporting and analytics, and more. Advancement Operations develops and delivers the centralized business systems and services that support the work of UC Berkeley’s 30 decentralized fundraising units, helping them collaborate and communicate in order to maximize their collective results. Advancement Operations also provides governance through its role as the official source of alumni and fundraising data. The Advancement Information Services (AIS) unit develops and delivers the primary business data and systems that support the work of UC Berkeley’s centralized and decentralized fundraising activities. AIS oversees several interrelated information technology systems and tools, including the Cal Advancement Data System (CADS), the database in which advancement professionals research and record fundraising activity. AIS encompasses three units: Data and Business Solutions, Technology Services, and Strategic Planning and Management. Data Management (DM) is the office of record for data related to alumni, donors, and friends of UC Berkeley. DM helps the advancement community meet programmatic and campaign goals by providing accurate, complete data that documents the campus’s relationship with its constituents. DM protects, archives, enhances, and manages the data and delivers it through efficient processes and effective systems in a secure environment. In addition, DM supports the campus advancement community with customer service on all CADS issues. Position Summary The Data Systems Analyst plays a key role in leveraging data to drive alumni engagement, donor relations, and fundraising strategy. This position ensures the integrity, accessibility, and strategic use of advancement data across platforms and tools University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) uses daily to engage constituents. Serving as a bridge between technical teams and advancement professionals, the Data Systems Analyst manages and/or develops data practices, guidelines, dictionaries, and services that support data standardization in alignment with UDAR’s data and governance strategies. The Data Systems Analyst ensures compliance with data privacy standards (such as FERPA and donor confidentiality) and partners closely with business units to enable data-driven strategies that enhance institutional fundraising and engagement efforts. Responsibilities Applies professional and broadly defined business analysis and data / information administration and data use concepts to manage and perform complex assignments. Identifies data sources, target populations, and/or new constituencies to be enhanced or established. Develops methodology for data enhancement or retrieval in assigned specialty area(s). Protects integrity, authenticity, and security of data in all assignment activities. Independently designs and implements regular data audits to identify and resolve issues related to data quality, completeness, consistency, and accuracy. Develops audit methodologies, recommends corrective actions, and collaborates with business partners to ensure continuous data integrity improvements. Independently manages documentation, including data dictionary, business rules, practices, and processes. Translates legacy processes and practices to future state. Provides ongoing CRM training and support for business units as it pertains to data uploads, standards, and maintenance. Independently designs information transformation and upload processes. Utilizes programming skills to clean, prepare, and optimize data sets, creating efficiencies and improving data quality. Conducts complex data management research and plans metadata acquisition for sets of unstructured data objects such as collections of images, documents or recordings. Coordinates student worker schedules and assignments. Systematically reviews their work for accuracy and completeness. Proactively meets with student workers to identify, resolve, and prevent errors. Continuously works on skill building and professional development to advance their role. Required Qualifications Minimum two years experience working with data quality and governance issues and requirements. Minimum two years experience applying knowledge of data management systems, practices and standards. Demonstrated proficiency in writing SQL, programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, R), or utilizing advanced spreadsheet automation tools (e.g., Excel Power Query, Google Apps Script) for data analysis, transformation, and process automation. Demonstrated ability to conduct work using relevant state, federal, and global rules and regulations as it pertains to data management and privacy. Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated service orientation skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Strong organizational skills. Strong analytical and design skills, including the ability to abstract information requirements from real-world processes to understand information flows in computer systems. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with Salesforce platform and object structures. Familiarity with logical data design and data mapping or data conversion. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The budgeted annual salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $102,000 - $112,000. This is an exempt, monthly-paid position.
