Professional Hockley, TX, US Day Shift HSE Coordinator Job Description Position Summary The Day Shift HSE Coordinator is responsible for supporting and implementing Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs throughout day shift operations. This position serves as a highly visible HSE representative on the production floor and works closely with employees, supervisors, managers, and the HSE team to promote a safe, compliant, and productive work environment. A significant responsibility of this position is employee safety training and development. The HSE Coordinator will conduct monthly safety meetings, toolbox talks, new-hire safety training, refresher training, and other instructor-led safety programs. The successful candidate must be confident speaking in front of groups, capable of maintaining employee engagement, and able to communicate safety information in a manner employees can understand, retain, and apply in the workplace. Candidates with demonstrated hands-on experience developing and delivering safety training will be prioritized over candidates whose experience is primarily based on holding safety or equipment certifications. Safety Leadership & Employee Engagement Serve as an HSE representative for day shift operations. Maintain a visible presence throughout production and operational areas. Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, coaching, and positive reinforcement. Build effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, department managers, and the HSE team. Conduct routine field observations and safety audits. Provide immediate guidance when unsafe conditions, behaviors, or work practices are identified. Participate in and support pre-shift meetings, toolbox talks, and departmental safety discussions. Encourage employees to actively participate in workplace safety programs and hazard identification. Safety Training & Employee Development The HSE Coordinator is expected to serve as an active safety trainer and instructor, not solely as a safety compliance resource. Plan, prepare, and conduct monthly employee safety meetings. Deliver engaging instructor-led safety training to individuals and groups of employees. Conduct new-hire safety orientations and job-specific safety training as assigned. Conduct toolbox talks, refresher training, remedial training, and other safety training programs. Clearly communicate technical safety information in practical terms employees can understand and apply. Use questions, demonstrations, employee participation, practical exercises, and other instructional techniques to maintain engagement. Evaluate employee understanding and retention of training material. Identify employees who may require additional instruction, coaching, or remedial training. Assist with competency evaluations and employee qualification programs. Maintain accurate training attendance, qualification, and completion records. Assist with development and improvement of safety presentations, training materials, procedures, and instructional resources. Provide training in both classroom and field environments. Coordinate with supervisors and management to identify training needs based on workplace observations, incidents, employee performance, and operational changes. Equipment & Operator Safety Training Preference will be given to candidates who have practical experience conducting and administering equipment safety training, including applicable operator evaluations. Forklift / Powered Industrial Truck safety and operator training. Overhead crane safety and operator training. Rigging and material handling. Fall protection. Lockout/Tagout (LOTO). Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Welding and hot work safety. Machine and equipment safety. Emergency response and evacuation. Other OSHA or industry-related safety subjects. Possessing an operator card or certification alone is not considered equivalent to instructor experience. The preferred candidate will have experience developing, presenting, demonstrating, evaluating, and documenting training over these subjects. Inspections & Compliance Perform regular inspections of fabrication, assembly, welding, material handling, forklift, overhead crane, rigging, and elevated work activities. Verify completion of required daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic inspections. Identify unsafe conditions and work practices and communicate required corrective actions. Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA requirements, company policies and procedures, and customer requirements. Maintain accurate inspection and audit documentation. Follow up with responsible departments to verify corrective actions have been completed. Assist management with implementing new or revised HSE requirements. Respond to workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, property damage events, and safety concerns. Assist with or conduct incident investigations and root cause analysis. Prepare incident documentation and corrective-action recommendations. Identify training or competency deficiencies that may have contributed to an incident. Provide or coordinate remedial training when appropriate. Track assigned corrective actions through completion. Communicate lessons learned from incidents to employees and supervisors when appropriate. Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate HSE records, inspection reports, training documentation, and employee qualification records. Track open safety observations, findings, and corrective actions. Assist with monitoring leading and lagging safety indicators. Prepare routine HSE activity reports as required. Document training attendance and employee competency evaluations. Maintain organized and accurate records in company HSE management systems and operating platforms. Assist with regulatory and internal compliance documentation. Emergency Response Support emergency response activities when required. Assist with evacuation drills and emergency preparedness initiatives. Help ensure emergency equipment and response procedures are maintained. Provide employees with appropriate emergency-response training and awareness. Qualifications Required: Minimum 2 years of industrial HSE/safety experience in manufacturing, fabrication, construction, steel production, or a similar industrial environment. Minimum 2 years of demonstrated experience providing instructor-led safety training. Experience conducting safety training for groups of employees in classroom, shop, field, or industrial environments. Demonstrated ability to speak confidently and professionally in front of groups and maintain employee engagement. Experience evaluating employee understanding, competency, or practical application of training. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general industry safety requirements. Experience performing workplace safety inspections and identifying hazards. Experience assisting with or conducting incident investigations. Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and documentation skills. Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with HSE management and operational leadership. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn company safety-management software and operating platforms. Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills. Preferred: OSHA 30-Hour certification. OSHA 10-Hour certification. OSHA 510 or equivalent advanced OSHA training. Qualified or experienced forklift/PIT trainer. Qualified or experienced overhead crane operator/trainer. Experience conducting practical equipment operator evaluations. Experience developing safety presentations, lesson plans, toolbox talks, or other training materials. Experience with steel fabrication, structural steel assembly, welding, overhead cranes, rigging, lifting operations, forklifts, and material handling. CHST, OHST, ASP, SMS, CSP, or equivalent safety certification. Train-the-Trainer or adult-learning/instructor-development coursework. Training experience will be weighted heavily during candidate selection. Candidates who have personally developed, delivered, and evaluated safety training are preferred over candidates who primarily possess certifications without demonstrated instructional experience. Confidently lead monthly safety meetings for groups of employees. Maintain audience attention and participation throughout training sessions. Explain OSHA requirements and company procedures in understandable, practical language. Adjust training methods based on employee experience, language, literacy, and understanding. Encourage questions and employee participation. Demonstrate equipment and safe-work practices when appropriate. Conduct hands-on evaluations of employee knowledge and skills. Determine whether employees have adequately understood and retained training material. Recognize when retraining or additional coaching is necessary. Maintain professional control of a classroom or group-training environment. Communicate effectively with both English- and Spanish-speaking employees. Physical Requirements Ability to walk production facilities for extended periods. Ability to stand for extended periods while conducting classroom or field training. Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas when required. Ability to work in indoor, outdoor, manufacturing, fabrication, and industrial environments. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to wear all required PPE. Ability to work around welding, fabrication, machinery, mobile equipment, cranes, and material-handling operations. Ideal Candidate Profile We are looking for an HSE professional who is equally comfortable on the production floor and standing in front of a group of employees conducting training. The ideal candidate is not simply someone who possesses safety certifications or equipment operator cards. We are specifically seeking an individual who has used their knowledge and qualifications to teach others. For example, a candidate who holds forklift or overhead crane qualifications and has personally developed training materials, conducted classroom instruction, demonstrated equipment requirements, administered practical evaluations, documented competency, and provided refresher or remedial training would be strongly preferred. This individual should be approachable, confident, organized, and capable of communicating with employees at all levels of the organization. They should know how to encourage participation, ask questions, demonstrate safe practices, evaluate understanding, and make safety training relevant to the work employees perform every day.
