Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse Supervisor, the Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care for acutely and critically ill patients following established policies, procedures, and physician orders. The incumbent will receive training and rotate through critical care departments, Medical/Telemetry Unit, and other services as necessary. This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by themselves or those under their direction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide direct observation of patients as outlined in the nursing care plan.
• Assist nursing staff to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
• Deliver evidence-based care and participate in unit shared leadership.
• Engage in education, role development, and orientation for staff, patients, and families.
• Develop personalized patient care plans and continuously evaluate their effectiveness.
• Accurately document observations, interventions, and therapeutic measures in health records.
• Maintain current knowledge in critical care through ongoing education and meetings.
• Recognize and respond to emergency situations, implementing life-saving procedures as necessary.
• Monitor specialized equipment and interpret electronic displays relevant to patient care.
• Supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed personnel as appropriate.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols and maintain proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Contribute to enhancing the patient experience by providing respectful and compassionate care.
• Collaborate effectively with medical staff and contribute to teamwork in the department.
• Assist with patient procedures and transportation throughout the facility as needed.
• Focus on quality nursing care through appropriate interventions and health education.
• Completed assessments before admission, during, and prior to discharge.
• Display effective communication skills, protecting patient privacy and rights.
• Administer medications per provider orders or established protocols.
• Assume leadership in emergency situations, including participating in code blue scenarios.
• Engage in professional growth and attend department meetings regularly.
• Manage inventory and assist in identifying opportunities for process improvement.
• Provide Navajo interpretation for patients when needed.
• Adapt to changes in work areas and assist nursing care in different settings as necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications

• In-depth knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and standards in healthcare.
• Understanding of infection control practices and protocols.
• Ability to utilize critical thinking skills and perform independently or within teams.
• Proficiency in the use of computer software including Microsoft applications.
• Ability to establish professional relationships with diverse individuals.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The employee frequently stands, walks, crouches, and kneels, and must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Work is primarily performed in a healthcare setting with exposure to potentially hazardous materials requiring adherence to safety precautions.

Position Requirements

• Must be a recent nursing school graduate and pass the NCLEX examination within three months of graduation.
• Associate degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
• Valid unrestricted nursing license from the state of Arizona or another compact state.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications from a recognized provider.
• Successful completion of employee health and pre-employment requirements is mandatory.
