Posting Details Posting Number: S15114P Working Title: Laboratory Technician II – Devos Lab Department: CAES‑Crop & Soil Sciences Location: Athens Area Employment Type: Employee Full‑Time Position Position Summary The Devos lab requires a full‑time laboratory technician to ensure that project deliverables are met, undergraduate and graduate employees are trained and supervised, and supplies and chemicals are ordered and tracked. This position performs a variety of research projects, administrative duties, ordering, inventory management, and safety compliance. Additional duties involve greenhouse and field work. The role includes use of a P‑Card. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of related experience Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies Detail‑oriented and accurate for experimental and laboratory management activities Strong organizational skills Good financial acumen to manage budgets and procurement Strong communication skills Ability to learn and acquire new procedures/skills and solve routine technical problems Ability to multitask and prioritize work assignments, working independently with limited supervision Ability to train others effectively and efficiently in the laboratory Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) Physical Demands Greenhouse and outdoor work in hot conditions Lift up to 20 lbs Some sitting and standing in the laboratory environment Driving as needed to perform job duties Duties and Responsibilities Administrative duties such as ordering laboratory supplies from various vendors using UGAMart and other platforms; tracking chemicals with CampusOptics; maintaining lab safety records; training new student employees on safety and compliance Serve as a P‑Card holder, processing transactions in compliance with policy and established procedures Assist with a variety of research projects in the Devos lab, including plant growth, maintenance and harvesting, laboratory experiments, and preparation of reagents and media Train undergraduate employees and graduate students on proper lab protocols and experimental procedures to ensure project deliverables are met Assist with greenhouse and field work where plant material for sponsored projects is grown, propagated, and harvested; perform other duties as assigned Equal Employment Opportunity Statement The University of Georgia is an Equal Opportunity employer.
