Experienced RN - High‑Risk Postpartum Unit Work Arrangement: Regular Location: Durham, NC, 27710, US Requisition Number: 265080 Date: May 3, 2026 Job Summary As a Clinical Nurse with Duke University Health System, you will prioritize patient care in a family‑centered, high‑acuity environment. The RN provides direct and indirect total nursing care to pregnant and postpartum patients with high‑risk conditions, including continuous assessment, medication management (including high‑alert medications), patient education, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to support optimal maternal and fetal outcomes. Responsibilities include planning and delivering advanced nursing care guided by the DUHS Professional Practice model, participating in clinical ladder and educational activities, and adhering to all local, state, and federal regulations. Work Hours & Shifts Full time, 12‑hour night shifts (approximately 8 p.m.‑8 a.m.). Department Profile The 23‑bed Antenatal & High‑Risk Postpartum Unit cares for pregnant and postpartum patients requiring close monitoring due to medical, obstetric, or fetal complications. The unit supports a diverse patient population with conditions such as preeclampsia, placenta previa, preterm labor, multifetal gestations, surgical/cesarean recovery, and medically complex postpartum needs. The RN provides skilled, evidence‑based nursing care, continuous assessment, medication management (including high‑alert medications), patient education, and multidisciplinary collaboration to promote optimal maternal and fetal outcomes. Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience Required Previous work experience (1+ years) as a clinical nurse. Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate’s Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. Minimum Qualifications Education Graduation from an accredited BSN program. For RNs hired between July 1 2014 and April 11 2021 without a Bachelor’s degree, enrollment in an appropriate BSN program within two years and completion within five years is required. For RNs hired before July 1 2014, BSN enrollment is not required. All registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree are encouraged to enroll within two years of start date and complete within seven years. Experience At least twelve months of appropriate clinical experience are required. Employees with six months of experience who are exceptional performers may be considered for this level. Degrees, Licensures, Certifications Must hold current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
