Job description
Siriwan Thai Restaurant in Silver Spring, Maryland, is seeking an experienced Thai Cuisine Chef to join our kitchen team.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of authentic Thai cooking techniques, ingredients, recipes, food preparation, and kitchen operations. We are looking for a reliable and professional chef who can consistently prepare high-quality Thai dishes with our fresh and authentic Thai ingredients, customizing our guests’ orders effectively and accurately while maintaining the restaurant’s standards for taste, presentation, sanitation, and food safety.
Responsibilities
- Menu creation using seasonal produces available.
- Create high quality Thai dishes including making various appetizers, soups, curries, stir-fried rice, noodle soup and desserts.
- Determine how food should be presented and create decorative food displays.
- Order raw materials, ingredients and supplies with the restaurant’s manager. Must have knowledge of Thai ingredients especially sauces and pastes used in different dishes.
- Check the materials and goods ordered from the supplier.
- Supervise kitchen workers to prepare ingredients and raw materials to be ready to use each day including training them to have better understanding and skills in Thai cooking.
- Monitor the quantity and quality of food that is prepared consistently. Ensure all operating standards including food safety and quality are strictly adhered to.
- Monitor, maintain, measure and control the recipe and food cost.
- Maximize kitchen efficiency and sanitation.
- Constantly update your knowledge and skills for the good of the establishment.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in Thai Cuisine in Chef/Cook position
- Effective English communication skills
- Menu creation skills using seasonal produces available
- Extensive Thai cuisine and ingredients knowledge
- Ability to cook and decorate Thai dishes including appetizers, soups, salads, curries and stir-fried dishes
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a friendly demeanor
- Ability to stand for an extended period of time
- Flexibility to work various shifts and weekends
- Ability to work as part of a solid team; proven team player
- Knowledge of purchasing, ordering, receiving, food costing and inventory procedures
- Skills in kitchen management and setting up efficient kitchen system
- Knowledge in Thai cuisine kitchen operation
Compensation
Compensation will be determined based on the applicant’s professional experience, culinary knowledge, responsibilities, and demonstrated ability.
