Job summary:

Classroom Teachers are responsible for implementing prescribed curriculum and ensuring the health and safety of each child. Teachers are responsible for completing individual child logs, providing support and activities to encourage development of the whole child and maintaining constant supervision of children at all time.

 

Duties include:

 

A. Plan developmentally appropriate activities for your assigned age group

 

B. Sanitize your classroom weekly (cots, sheets, blankets, toys, shelves, trash can, etc.)

 

C. Cooperate with Directors and supervisors in any temporary reassignment necessary to meet staff / child ratios and to maintain a safe and healthy childcare environment

 

D. Provide stimulating activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of children

 

E. Continually observe children, analyze and evaluate findings, and apply this knowledge to practice

 

F. Establish criteria, procedures, and documentation methods for assessment

 

G. Maintain records and other information regarding the progress of each child

 

H. Create and maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relations with families and communicate daily events

 

I. Write and implement lesson plans and follow a daily schedule based on prescribed educational focused curriculum that incorporates developmentally appropriate practices

 

J. Recognize and respect appropriate parent / child confidentiality

 

K. Set an example for children by using appropriate hygiene, social skills, sanitation, etc.

 

L. Attend scheduled staff meetings, training, open house, field trips, parent events, and conferences as required

 

M. Become well acquainted with each child and aware of their needs

 

N. Cooperate in maintaining a happy atmosphere in which each child may come to know his freedoms and limitations

 

O. Be consistently mindful of the program’s goals and missions and work for daily realization of these goals

 

 

Qualifications:

The Classroom Teacher shall be of good character and physical stamina. S/He must have an understanding of child development and preschool operations. Must have or obtain at least a CDA Credential and have one year of previous experience working in a childcare setting. Knowledge of Missouri Department of Health standards, Parents As teachers and Head Start is helpful. Must obtain a minimum of 15 hours of professional development including CPR / First Aid / Emergency Response certification.
