Payroll Staff Accountant

POSITION TITLE: Payroll Staff Accountant

SUPERVISOR: Controller

As the Payroll Staff Accountant, you will own the full-cycle payroll for 350+ hourly, salaried, and commission-based employees located in Minnesota, California, and Arizona. Additional duties include month-end account reconciliations, inventory calculations and verifications, and weekly sales compilation with entry into the accounting system.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll

• Validate timesheets for weekly payroll processing
• Calculate wages, overtime, tips, commissions, and bonuses
• Process payroll using the payroll system (currently ADP Workforce Now, transitioning to Paylocity)
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
• Process wage garnishments, levies, and other court-ordered deductions
• Balance payroll runs and provide reporting to internal teams
• Maintain organized records of payroll transactions
• Research and resolve payroll and related inquiries or issues
• Serve as a subject-matter expert for payroll audits and reporting
• Verify enrollment and participant withholding changes for retirement plan

GL, Account Reconciliation, and Month-End

• Compile and post weekly sales journal entries
• Calculate and validate monthly inventory entries
• Create and manage salon discounts and promotions in the POS system
• Assist Senior Accountant and Controller with month-end close
• Prepare various account reconciliations as assigned
• Assist with software and application systems migrations for payroll and accounting
• Assist in preparation of monthly financial reports for leadership and salons

Work Location : Primarily in-office, with the opportunity for remote work up to two days a week after successful completion of training.

Qualifications

• 2+ years multi-state payroll experience required
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or relevant field; equivalent experience will be considered
• Paylocity and/or ADP Workforce Now knowledge is preferred
• NetSuite Accounting software experience preferred
• Understanding of California wage and hour laws, including Overtime and Meal Break requirements
• Inventory management experience desired
