Travel RN - Telemetry - Progressive Care Unit

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring strong vasoactive drip titration skills and telemetry expertise.

Job Details

• PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown unit functioning more like an ICU environment,
• 20-bed unit with an ADC of 18, serving ICU stepdown patients including post rapid response, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, and GI bleed cases,
• Post-op patient population including GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomy, neuro, and ortho surgeries, plus pre/post OB patients with complications,
• Patient population spans adolescent, adult, and geriatric ages,
• Target patient ratio of 1:3-4,
• Only one pressor drip per patient allowed on unit; additional pressors require ICU transfer,
• Vasoactive and cardiac drips administered on unit include Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo,
• Bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup used for continuous cardiac monitoring,
• Unit equipped for A-lines, BiPAP, chest tubes, and tracheostomy care; no ventilators on unit,
• Uses Pyxis and Epic systems,
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM,
• Every other weekend requirement,
• Floating required as needed to a sister ICCU unit,
• No block scheduling available; schedule created by nurse manager,

Job Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license/certs OK for consideration,
• Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS,
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required,
• Required skills: arterial line management, titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias,
• Required skills: central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management,
• Required skills: blood product administration, IV insulin protocols, and heparin protocols,
• Required skills: chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), BiPAP/CPAP management, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy care,
• Required skills: non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions/PPE, and use of rapid response/code teams,
• Experience with IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and conscious sedation required,
• Epic charting experience preferred,
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start,

Additional Information

• Provide progressive/stepdown level care to hemodynamically unstable and post-surgical patients requiring close monitoring,
• Recognize and treat cardiac dysrhythmias using bedside telemetry with remote backup support,
• Navy, white, or a combination of both required for scrubs,
• Hospital orientation held during first week; must be available for classes each day,
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply,
• Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility,
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying and disclose employment history for facility approval,
• Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status, not both,
• Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission,
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO permitted during first week of assignment,
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays,
• No additional RTO requests allowed after signing
