Scope of Job
To assist the Director in the overall administration of the Mathematics and Science Academy instructional program and assist with the coordination of the operations of the Academy.
Description of Duties
Assists with the direction, management and coordination of all the activities of the Math and Science Academy.
Cultivates working relationships with faculty, parents, students and university colleagues.
Collaborates with academy personnel and university stakeholders to support student recruitment, retention, and student engagement initiatives.
Oversees the coordination and scheduling of part-time student employees and tutoring support personnel.
Supports the implementation and monitoring of academic, behavioral, and attendance intervention strategies to promote student success and accountability.
Assists in the management and analysis of student performance data, including term and cum GPA , high school class rank, bi-weekly semester progress check-ins, and progress reports.
Supports the coordination and implementation of student engagement opportunities, including clubs, organizations, workshops, orientations, and academy events.
Supports the implementation of student discipline procedures, restorative practices, and enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct in alignment with university and academy expectations.
Supports the coordination and implementation of dual enrollment processes, university partnership initiatives, and collaborative student success efforts with academy personnel and university departments.
Assists in ensuring compliance with university policies, FERPA guidelines, Texas Education Agency requirements, and applicable institutional procedures.
Assists in reviewing and analyzing student success data to support continuous program improvement and strategic decision-making.
Supports campus safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and student supervision expectations in alignment with university and academy guidelines.
Supports communication efforts with parents, students, faculty, and community stakeholders regarding academy programs and initiatives.
Evaluates the effectiveness of marketing strategies and recruitment for the Math and Science Academy in order to increase overall academy enrollment.
Participates in the development and evaluation of educational programs within the Academy and makes recommendations as necessary.
Facilitates communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems, and/or resolving conflicts.
Aids in establishing and promoting high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents and school personnel.
Supervises operations in Director’s absence.
Supports the Director in overseeing Academy operations, including regulatory compliance, office and facility operations, personnel coordination, student supervision, and implementation of institutional policies and procedures.
Assists Director in developing, maintaining, and using appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment of the Academy’s performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
Facilitates acquisition and distribution of instructional materials to support student learning.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Master’s degree in a closely related from an accredited university.

- Required: Texas Mid-management or Valid Principal certificate and Valid Texas teaching certificate.
Required Experience
Three (3) years of experience in high school/middle school teaching experience required and knowledge of curriculum and instruction; strong communications, public relations, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. Some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
