SUMMARY:

Under minimal supervision, the Paralegal provides integral support to attorneys in representing clients in patents, trademark, and copyright. Provides a high level of support including docket management, drafting correspondence and legal documents, and maintaining client related databases. Uses discretion and judgment while planning and organizing workload to ensure established priorities are met.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Draft, edit, proofread, and prepare legal correspondence and intellectual property documents, including patent, trademark, and copyrights filings.
• Prepare, review and electronically file U.S. patent and trademark applications and related documents with the USPTO
• Maintain patent and trademark docketing systems to ensure all filing deadlines, office action due dates, maintenance fees, renewals and other critical deadlines are accurately tracked and met.
• Prepare and distribute docket and status reports for attorneys, clients, and management.
• Assist attorneys with patent and trademark prosecution by preparing declarations, assignments, powers of attorney, Information Disclosure Statements (IDS), and other supporting documents.
• Coordinate domestic and foreign patent and trademark filings.
• Research legal databases and evaluates pertinence of information.
• Provide administrative support including data entry, document management, proofreading and file maintenance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and/or related software, and the ability to effectively utilize various applications such as iManage, as well as legal research tools and resources.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while exhibiting a strong attention to detail.
• Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and deadlines for multiple client tasks at different stages of filing processes.
• Ability to demonstrate strong attention to detail, independently troubleshoot, professionally interact with others, and exceptional customer service skills.
• Ability to demonstrate good judgment and effectively prioritize tasks.
• Ability to perform efficiently, maintain high quality and quantity of work, and adapt to changes effectively.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• At least two years of related experience, preferably with an IP law firm.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related area or paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program
