Court Support Clerk Supervisor

Responsibilities Court Support Clerk Supervisor positions serve as first-line supervisors over a group of Court Support Clerks performing a variety of supervisory and specialized clerical work related to law enforcement, court, and legal proceedings in the Office of the City Attorney. Duties include planning and reviewing clerical operations; assigning and evaluating the work of subordinates; maintaining proper workflow within the unit; providing technical guidance on the City Attorney, County, State, and nationwide criminal databases; supporting deputy city attorneys; compiling statistics to identify resource needs; troubleshooting complex document activities and procedural questions; researching and resolving issues in accordance with the City Attorney’s Office policies, court rules, and Department of Justice guidelines; coordinating work with other legal units; prioritizing workload; assisting with the review and implementation of new procedures; recruiting and selecting staff; training, supervising, evaluating, and rating subordinates; providing discipline, rewards, and recognition; performing functions of lower-level classes in the series; and performing additional duties as assigned. Benefits Eligible employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS). Experience You must meet ONE of the following options: One year of full-time experience as a Court Support Clerk II with the City of San Diego. Three years of clerical experience, including two years in a legal environment, locating, obtaining, and organizing case documents and related information for court or responding to legal discovery requests. City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist that details the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will not be considered. Highly Desirable Experience with Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement computer database programs, such as JURIS and SD Law systems. Experience supervising clerical staff, including employee selection, timecard approval, performance evaluations, training, discipline, and commendation recommendations.
