Industrial Electrician - El Cajon, CA (1st Shift)

Job Description

• The Industrial Electrician maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and improves electrical infrastructure and production support systems within a manufacturing environment. This role serves as the subject matter expert for facility electrical systems across multiple buildings, with a primary focus on properly allocating power throughout the facility, evaluating existing systems, and implementing upgrades such as installing larger panels and rerouting power to support safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair facility electrical distribution systems, including high-voltage and 480 VAC infrastructure.
• Repair and support 480V power systems, motor controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), PLC-controlled equipment, control panels, relays, and contactors.
• Lead electrical equipment upgrades, replacements, and capital improvement projects related to electrical infrastructure.
• Plan and execute electrical shutdowns, tie-ins, and system transitions to minimize downtime and ensure safety.
• Perform root cause analysis on electrical failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings to diagnose and resolve issues.
• Maintain accurate electrical asset records and work documentation within a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Support equipment installations, startups, and commissioning activities for new or upgraded production equipment.
• Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance plans for electrical systems and components.
• Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, including NEC and NFPA 70E, and strictly follow lockout/tagout procedures.
• Coordinate activities with contractors and vendors to support projects, maintenance work, and equipment upgrades.
• Install conduit, pull wire, and complete panelboard and transformer connections as required for system modifications.
• Operate power tools, electrical testing and diagnostic equipment, forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts in a safe and efficient manner.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by evaluating current electrical systems and identifying opportunities for upgrades, efficiency improvements, and reliability enhancements.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 7 years of industrial electrical maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Hands-on experience working with high-voltage and 480 VAC electrical distribution systems.
• Strong troubleshooting skills involving motor controls, VFDs, PLC-controlled equipment, control panels, relays, and contactors.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and one-line drawings.
• Experience planning and executing electrical equipment upgrades, shutdowns, and tie-ins.
• Solid knowledge of NEC and NFPA 70E electrical codes and standards, as well as lockout/tagout requirements.
• Ability to use electrical testing and diagnostic equipment, including multimeters, clamp meters, and insulation resistance testers.
• Experience maintaining records and work orders within a CMMS environment.
• Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance activities, manage time effectively, and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Comfort operating forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and using power tools in an industrial setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with electrical infrastructure upgrades, including breakers, disconnects, switchgear, transformers, panelboards, and motor control centers (MCCs).
• Familiarity with electrical control systems, including VFDs, relays, contactors, and associated control circuitry.
• Experienced in electrical shutdown planning and execution to support major maintenance and capital projects.
• Experience supporting equipment commissioning, startups, and integration into existing production lines.
• Knowledge of conduit installation best practices, wire pulling techniques, and panel layout considerations.
• Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions for recurring electrical issues.
• Exposure to capital improvement projects involving electrical panels, transformers, and facility power distribution.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to documentation accuracy for assets and maintenance activities.

Work Environment

• This position operates on a first-shift schedule, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work is performed in a manufacturing and industrial facility that supports aviation repair, commercial aerospace components, and military components production. The environment involves working around high-voltage electrical systems, production equipment, and chemical milling processes used for aerospace engine components. The role requires regular use of power tools, electrical test equipment, forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts, as well as interaction with electrical panels, transformers, switchgear, and other distribution equipment. Employees work in a structured industrial setting with a focus on safety, adherence to electrical and facility standards, and collaboration with maintenance, operations, and external contractors.

This is a Contract position based out of El Cajon, CA.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
