Health Care Facilities Field Surveyor - Entry (Multiple Vacancies)

Organization Health Work Location Health Department Building 246 North High Street, 1st Floor, Columbus, OH 43215 Primary Location United States of America - OHIO - Franklin County - Columbus Schedule Full-time, 10 hour/4 days Mon‑Thurs Compensation $31.74 per hour Primary Job Skill Regulatory Compliance What You’ll Do Receive instruction and on‑the‑job training on survey tasks and protocols applicable to long‑term care (LTC) and acute and continuing care (ACC). Attend mandated state and federal surveyor training. Travel to health care facilities to participate in or conduct, under supervision, onsite inspections to determine compliance. Participate in discussion with facility officials regarding survey findings. Attend exit interview meetings with facility staff as part of the survey team. Learn to review plans of correction for deficiencies. Complete survey reports and deficiency statements according to the Principles of Documentation. Provide consultation to newer surveyors. Receive training in gathering evidence for cases that may require legal action. Participate in hearing preparations and hearings as a member of the survey team. Testify before judicial bodies as assigned. Analyze data collected during the survey process and prepare specialized reports. Assist in drafting responses to questions regarding the survey process. Assist supervisor in preparing speeches to community groups, providers, or other agencies. Carry laptop, portable scanner, reference materials and forms (up to 25 lbs.) to/from worksite and use state‑provided software for documentation and reporting. Learn to use computer‑assisted processes and applicable data sets (e.g., MDS, OASIS) to monitor quality indicators. Develop other reports/materials required by CMS. Maintain administrative records and/or library of current reference literature as needed. Complete, submit all travel documents, expense reports, and computerized survey forms. Notify supervisor of problems that jeopardize meeting timeframes. Important Facts To Consider Travel: surveyors travel constantly, including overnight stays and weekend work when required. Emergencies: complaint responses cannot be planned; surveyors must respond promptly. Documentation: Effective technical writing skills are essential. Work Life Balance: Vacation time is approved based on seniority. Unusual Working Conditions Requires travel twelve (12) months per year, including overnight stays, regardless of weather. Potential exposure to infectious waste during observation of care. Must climb, bend, and reach to inspect facility service areas, attics, basements, and other locations. Qualifications Minimum qualifications for employment: Certification, licensure, or registration in the assigned discipline (e.g., registered nurse, licensed dietician, licensed social worker, licensed environmental health specialist, licensed nursing home administrator, licensed pharmacist, licensed physical/occupational/speech therapist). 24 months of experience in a health care setting (long‑term care, acute care, nondurable facility, ICF/IID, hospice, home health, dialysis, ambulatory surgical center, or community health protection). 12 months of training or experience using a personal computer and software to access and record data. Valid driver’s license. Additional qualifications: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in the assigned discipline. Experience conducting surveys/inspections of long‑term care and non‑long‑term care facilities. Passed the SMQT Surveyor Minimum Qualification Test. Experience as a licensed health care professional in a nursing home or ICF/IID. Experience or education in technical or report writing. Experience presenting technical presentations. Experience using computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience working in critical care, hospital, urgent care, or emergency department as a licensed health care professional. Experience providing training or orientation to new employees. Educational Transcript Requirements Official educational transcripts are required for all post‑high‑school educational accomplishments. Applicants must submit an official transcript before a formal offer is made.
