About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ER (Emergency Room) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening/Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Must have state license in hand Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: 2 years of emergency department experience. Able to work with duos and first-time travelers. Description: The Emergency Room is a trauma IV center. Patients requiring stroke or STEMI treatment are transferred out. The department has 14 beds and 2 trauma bays. There is a Fast Track area with 3 designated rooms. A separate triage area exists with 2 triage rooms. Travelers may be allowed to triage after familiarization with policies and procedures. Patients can be held in the department as well as in adjacent ACU rooms when needed. There are psych/seclusion rooms available that can be adapted as needed. Security is provided by local law enforcement, with an internal code backup for emergencies. On average, the ER treats between 40 to 60 patients daily. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3-4 during the day and 1:2 after 11 PM. Common diagnoses include traumas, STEMIs, strokes, hunting injuries, and motor vehicle accidents. A variety of medications and drips are utilized in the department. ED physicians are available on-site 24/7. Charge nurses may take assignments during their shifts. Support staff includes nurse aides, medics, and LPNs, who provide assistance based on department needs. Respiratory Therapy services are available 24/7 for procedures such as ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKGs. Central monitoring is conducted by RNs, as no techs are present in the ER. X-ray services are located down the hall and are available 24/7; CT imaging is also readily accessible. Phlebotomy services are active around the clock. The scheduling manager works to create equitable shift rotations. Weekend work is required every other week. Holiday availability is required for at least 2-3 holidays during winter. Voluntary pay-per-call options are in place. There may be floating requirements to assist with inpatient needs. Dress code allows for any solid color scrubs that are clean and professional. Training includes computer-based learning as well as on-floor orientation focused on department policies.
