Controller – Real Estate

An established, family-owned commercial real estate owner and operator seeks a hands-on Controller to oversee accounting and financial operations for approximately 1 million square feet of office, retail, and commercial properties .

Working directly with ownership, the Controller will play a key role in financial management and daily property operations. This is an opportunity to take on broad responsibilities within a stable company and a collaborative, close-knit team.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting, financial statements, general ledgers, reconciliations, and intercompany transactions.
• Manage cash flow, banking, treasury functions, and mortgage and lender reporting.
• Coordinate tax preparation, estimated payments, RPIE filings, and other required reporting with outside accountants.
• Oversee tenant billing, lease-related charges, operating expense and real estate tax escalations, and collections.
• Supervise accounts payable and receivable staff and maintain effective accounting controls.
• Manage property accounting systems and work closely with property management, tenants, lenders, and outside professionals.
• Support ownership with entity and family accounting, insurance matters, and retirement plan administration.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in commercial real estate accounting, including financial reporting, tenant billing, and lease escalations.
• Ability to manage both high-level financial responsibilities and day-to-day accounting details.
• Proficiency in Excel and property management/accounting software.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• A dependable, collaborative approach and the ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
