Title: Specialist, Veteran Benefits Department: DT Admissions & Records Campus Location: Trinity River Campus Employee Classification: CLR - Clerical Position Type: FT - Regular Grant Funded: No Pay Frequency: Monthly Compensation Details: Starting Pay - $41,800 Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. This position is based at a different campus each weekday. Remote Eligible: This position is not eligible for remote work Special Instructions to Applicant: Job Summary: This role is responsible for supporting the enrollment of veteran and military-connected students at Tarrant County College (TCC). Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Essential Performance Requirements* Provides enrollment and onboarding assistance to veterans and eligible family members, making appropriate referrals to campus and community resources and agencies Helps students understand the expectations for those utilizing Veterans Affairs (VA) and state entitlements to fund their studies Serves as a School Certifying Official (SCO) for the district and will assist with certification preparation, recording, and adjustment in the Department of Veterans Affairs information system; completes initial and annual SCO training Supports active-duty military and spouses with tuition assistance concerns Utilizes TCC's student information and imaging workflow platforms to verify and document eligibility and usage of related programs Guides students on filing TCC requests for use of VA benefits including explaining supplemental required documents, as well as how to utilize the Hazlewood tuition waiver program Maintains positive relationships with veterans' counselors and advisors on assigned campuses to assist students; collaborates with VA educational liaisons and counselors to resolve student concerns or needs Facilitates veteran student orientation, workshops, and seminars; promotes and supports campus student veteran organizations Adjusts residency type and applies state residency and tuition waivers as appropriate for veterans and eligible family members; routes VA correspondence for TCC action, including debt letter resolution Assists with the preparation of the annual catalog approval application packet for the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) and term reports for Hazlewood recipients Reviews professional pilot training invoices and flight logs to determine charges eligible for VA certification and will need to be able to articulate these determinations to flight program leads Hires and supervises VA work-study students or other student employees, trains Admissions and Registrar staff on VA and other veteran educational benefits Travels to various work locations at TCC campuses and other teaching locations in Tarrant County Service Excellence Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the Essential Performance Requirements Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC) Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College Supervision Works under the supervision of the assigned department leader *Performs Other Related Tasks as Required The duties listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Required Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree or 60 college credit hours and three (3) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements; or any equivalent combination of education and work-related experience Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree Bilingual in verbal and written English and Spanish At least one (1) year’s working experience with higher education Admissions, Records, and Registration policies and procedures as well as State and Federal educational benefits for veterans and eligible family members At least one (1) year’s working experience as a School Certifying Official (SCO) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Skilled in delivering high-quality customer service and building effective interpersonal relationships, including strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills Skilled in using educational ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) applications (e.g., Colleague, Banner, etc.), document imaging software (e.g., Laserfiche), and enterprise systems, including the Microsoft Office 365 suite Ability to use remote work tools, including video conferencing Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly ensuring accurate and timely completion, while exhibiting strong attention to detail and organization Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in collaborative environments, engaging with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders Ability to think critically to effectively solve and elevate non-standard problems using established procedures in a fast-paced work environment Ability to review basic information and follow policies, procedures, and guidelines when completing assigned tasks Ability to coordinate assigned work and communicate effectively with faculty and staff to support campus and departmental operations Ability to maintain a high level of diplomacy and tact, ensuring confidentiality and discretion with sensitive and confidential information Physical Demands and Work Environment: Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
