Assistant Federal Public Defender

National Legal Aid & Defender Association

The Assistant Defender position at SADO’s Detroit or Lansing offices focuses on challenging unconstitutional mandatory life sentences for juveniles and those recently extended protections. The role requires building trust with clients, visiting incarcerated individuals, and assembling mitigation evidence with a team of colleagues and experts. The attorney will review transcripts, identify novel legal issues, negotiate with prosecutors, and participate in hearings across Michigan, contributing to #J-18808-Ljbffr
