Chief Estimator

Our client, a well-established heavy civil contractor, is seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead their estimating department and play a key role in the continued growth of the business across the Greater Houston market. This is an opportunity for a proven estimating leader to join a contractor with a strong reputation for delivering complex infrastructure projects while influencing business strategy, mentoring high-performing teams, and securing major projects throughout the region. Key Responsibilities Lead all estimating activities for road and heavy civil projects from bid selection through final proposal submission. Develop accurate and competitive cost estimates for public and private infrastructure projects. Manage and mentor a team of estimators, ensuring consistency, quality, and professional development. Review plans, specifications, quantities, and contract documents to identify project risks and opportunities. Coordinate with operations, project management, and executive leadership throughout the pursuit process. Build and maintain relationships with owners, subcontractors, suppliers, and key industry partners. Develop bid strategies and recommend go/no-go decisions. Ensure estimates are completed on time while maintaining the highest level of accuracy. Monitor market trends, labour rates, material pricing, and subcontractor availability. Support business development initiatives by identifying future bidding opportunities. Requirements Extensive estimating experience within heavy civil construction. Previous leadership experience managing estimating teams. Strong background estimating road, highway, bridge, paving, earthwork or transportation infrastructure projects. Ability to interpret complex plans, specifications, and contract documents. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Strong commercial awareness and risk assessment capabilities. Experience with industry-standard estimating software. Stable career history with a track record of winning profitable work. Why Join?
