Anesthesiologist PositionThe staff Anesthesiologist is accountable to Chief, Anesthesiology, to provide the most effective delivery of anesthetic care throughout the medical center in compliance with VA and VHA Directives and The Joint Commission accreditation standards. The duties and responsibilities of the Anesthesiologist include, but are not limited to, the following:Responsible for all aspects of medical care and provide or assist residents and/or the mid-level practitioner in the process of evaluation and treatment of the patients who require AnesthesiaEvaluate the patient to assess changes in physical and mental status. A progress note is written in the patient's chart. Notes also include the concurrence of notes written by the resident and mid-level, as appropriate.Coordinating with providers within and outside of their own Service Line, and with other VHA facilities or community providers as determined by the plan of care for the veteran.Ensuring that barriers for Veterans and staff are minimized to promote a positive work environment, and foster positive working relationships with staff, peers and Veterans.Expected to share on-call responsibilities with other anesthesiologistsAssessment of, consultation for, and preparation of patients for anesthesia including pre-operative patient exam and assessment.Provision of insensibility to pain during surgical, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures and the management of patients so affected.Monitoring and restoration of homeostasis during the perioperative period, as well as homeostasis in the critically ill, injured, or otherwise seriously ill patient.Diagnosis and treatment of painful syndromes.Clinical management and teaching cardiac and pulmonary resuscitation.Evaluation of respiratory function and application of respiratory therapy in all its forms.Supervision, teaching, and evaluation of performance of both medical and paramedical personnel in anesthesia, respiratory, and critical care.Administrative involvement in hospitals, medical schools, and outpatient facilities necessary for implementation of these responsibilities.Providing anesthesia services at all locations VA Boston performs surgeries/procedures.Involvement in quality improvement efforts.VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increasesPaid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VAInsurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territoryCME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage providedContract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlightingWork Schedule: Full Time; Compressed tour may be offered to highly qualified applicants.
