JOB SUMMARY Oversees day-to-day operation of Operations Control Room, ensuring that Transmission System Coordinators and System Reliability Controllers are operating within North American Electric Reliability Corporation’s (NERC) standards and the Company’s policies and procedures. Responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the electric transmission system. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Functions as the Operating Authority of the Company. Monitors daily performance of Transmission System Coordinators (TSCs) and System Reliability Controllers (SRCs), ensuring that they are operating the transmission system within written guidelines and NERC Standards. Oversees the functions of system security, voltage regulation and switching and tagging; intervenes when necessary to ensure safe and reliable operations. Always complies with all applicable North American Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Regional Entity reliability standards . Primary contact for real-time interactions with interconnected transmission system operators and Reliability Coordinators. Takes or directs any action necessary during normal and emergency conditions to maintain the stability of the transmission system, including implementing load shedding or directing load shedding by local distribution companies. Directs system restoration actions in the event of a partial or widespread system blackout. Confers with and assists TSCs to resolve problems encountered during daily work; requires being available 24/7 for consultation during off hours. Participates in the training of TSC 1&2 and SRC 1&2 by assisting the Operation Training Staff with training. Audits Equipment Outage Requests and discusses any discrepancies with TSCs. Maintains accurate and complete shift log of events that occur during shift, including all normal and emergency operational events and computer systems hardware/software problems. Communicates to ensure management awareness of system conditions through the preparation of daily status reports and ad-hoc notifications for abnormal events and conditions. Represents the Operations Control Room by participating in meetings and discussions intended to develop operating policies and procedures and to resolve operating problems. Assists Operations management with assignments when necessary; may include providing verbal or written reports to management, attending internal/external meetings or other duties as assigned. Participates in interviews and selection of TSC and SRC candidates; assists with TSC and SRC job performance reviews. Performs duties of TSC when a workforce shortage is present. Uses English as the language for all communications between and among operating personnel responsible for the real-time generation control and operation of the interconnected Bulk Electric System. Maintains NERC System Operator Certificate at the Reliability Coordinator level. REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent; technical school training or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology preferred. Minimum of eight (8) years of operational experience in real time operations, preferably in a transmission system control room environment. Ability to work rotating shifts - 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week/ 365 days a year. Ability to exercise independent judgment, work in a high stress environment with speed and accuracy and have excellent written and verbal skills. North American Reliability Corporation (NERC) Certified System Operator Reliability Coordinator certificate. Possess good analytical ability and able to make independent decisions based on analysis in a limited time frame. Ability to provide leadership in emergency situations. Possesses computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook); intermediate skills in the following applications: system security analysis, operator load flow studies, voltage monitoring, SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) operation, etc. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
