Payroll Technician I – 2 Positions Available Job Summary Under the supervision of the Supervisor, Payroll Services, this position follows general instructions and well‑defined procedures to perform standardized payroll and personnel transactions for designated actions, employee categories, or campus departments. Tasks must be completed in a timely and accurate manner to ensure correct paychecks are generated by designated pay dates, including for campuses participating in the Cross‑Campus Payroll Collaboration Project. Key Responsibilities Perform payroll processing in Personnel/Payroll Information Management System (PIMS) for salaried and hourly employees. Provide customer service to assist employees and departments, tactfully and clearly explaining basic procedures and policies to individuals with minimal knowledge of payroll and personnel processes. Track payroll accounts receivables (AR) – research outstanding payroll and benefits accounts receivable and salary advance balances. Department Human Resources Service Group – Temporary, 1.0 time‑base, 40 hours per week for one year. Position is temporary with possible expiration prior to the end date. Compensation Salary placement is determined by education, experience, and qualifications, with a hiring range of $4,210 (Step #7) – $4,380 (Step #9) per month. The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $3,738 (Step #1) – $5,446 (Step #20) per month. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Adequate, transferable experience with HR, payroll, finance or related administrative responsibilities. Ability to take direction, assimilate information, learn all responsibilities, apply policies and procedures consistently, and maintain zero data entry errors. Ability to learn PJMS and PeopleSoft HR systems. Ability to review detailed numerical records, identify, trace, and correct processing errors, and take appropriate remedial action. Works well under pressure with interruptions. Performs complex arithmetic. Excellent communication skills with a diverse public. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Team player and self‑starter. Adheres to university policies, safety, civility, information security, and non‑discrimination policies. Education and Experience Equivalent to one year of experience in preparing and processing payroll/personnel documents. Application Procedures Complete the online application.
